Installation of Dvd rewriter

Before I ask this, remember that I am both a girl and blonde runs in my family! :o

Now that I've gotten that out of the way....so I recently got myself a second hand dvd rewriter and after reading some DIY installation things, I decided that it sounded dead easy, and off I trotted (not literally) to install said dvd rewriter.

I take off the side panel, knock out the panel thingie from the vacant drive place, and heres comes the problem, the rewriter won't go in from the front or the back. I presumed then that I would have to take off the front panel, but can't see anyway of removing it without breaking it. I have a normal, black Dell tower (I mentioned I was a girl, its purdy!) so I assume there is some 'knack'...

Anyhoo, any/all help would be appreciated. Unless ye are only going to mock the blondness in me, then just pi$$ off

    ;)

Its easy enough on the front panel there should be a Drive bay all thats in holding it in is 4 little plastic natches that you have pry open.

1st look for these and then with a flat screw driver slide it in and release the natches on one side the plastic cover will fall off then. Then slide your DVD drive into the empty bayand connect teh IDE cable and power to it.

Make sure you have your jumpers set correctly make your DVD drive the master on the secondary channel if possible.

As its a Dell it may only have one IDE channel then you may have to replace whatever drive you ahve there (your DVD drive may be a CDRW too if it is dump your old one and replace it).

As you are blonde and a girl should you need any personal assitance please call me :)

when i had my dell i wanted to install a CD-RW and was a newbie like yourself, but i noticed that the manual i got with the machine had a very good descriptive method of showing how to install a cd drive.

maybe your manual might have something similar?

mine was like 5 years ago so i don't know if they still supply the diagram in the manual anymore.

I had actually read about the master/slave thing *cough* but thats another topic :p

See, I did that (well I opening the side panel and pushed it out from behind) so I can see the vacant spot now, but the probelem is that the writer is too wide to fit in. Its like theres a case thing around the drives that needs to be removed, but refuses to budge, we are currently fighting ¬_¬

    Thanks for the help though!

On the front panel is 4 more natches 2 at top 2 at bottom , have to squeeze them together to open them , be careful when front falls off there are cables attached to it so dont let it fall too far. they are located the very top on the inside off the case and the very bottom. You cant miss them they are a bit big.

    They like this
    \ /
    \/

    You squeeze them like

    l l
\/ And the front just pops off.
