Question on what Memory to Purchase

I currently have a stick of 256Mb DDR RAM PC3200 - Samsung Original
I have a Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro nForce3 250 (Socket 754) with an AMD Athlon 64 3200 (Socket 754) on order. I just want to know what would be the best memory and amount to purchase. Should I keep my current memory and add to it with similar brand memory or purchase a stick 1gb of high performance memory. I read it won’t over clock much past 2.3 GHz so is there any point in buying good memory. I have also read there is issues with double-side RAM modules,
There’s a chart showing the memory configs on the Gigabyte website I don’t really understand. What’s X8 single rank or 16 mean
