last saturday at bell x1 i was asked for id for the first time ever at vicar st. thankfully i decided to borrow my sisters that night cos sometimes i get asked at the bar but loadsa people were being turned away and most of my friends had to go home. just wondering does anybody know if theyre going to be asking for id at every gig in the future or has anyone been asked before and has anybody been asked for id at the olympia recently?? im going to franz ferdidand next week, it says over 18s on the ticket, i didnt think it was going to be a problem but now im a worried they might have changed their policy too.
    thanx :D
    ps. bell x1 were AMAZING

Ouch, that's bad. Vicar St. has always been the easiest on ID in the past.

I have never been asked for ID at the Olympia either, but you really should be grand.

I've been worrying about that too!
I was at Bell X1 as well and on the way in the bouncers were sound. Myself and a friend didnt get asked for ID and at most we both look 16 or 17. So I was surprised to hear later that loads got turned away. Dont have a clue how we got in.

I've been at the Olympia once before and didnt see anyone getting asked for ID but it didnt matter for me that time since I was with an over 18 person.

I hope we dont asked for ID at Franz anyway...

Suppose they are "licenced premises" and they're not meant to have under 23s "without ID" present after 9 o clock
think they're the new rules anyway

Yeah they are the new rules...screw that God damn government anyway!!!!! Ive been asked for ID a bit aswell! At the Ataris a while back( being dragged, bad idea!!!) there were loads of little teeny boppers cos as we all know they are pop punk personified. We were told about 20 minutes before it opened that we had to have an id, most of the kids began freakiong out. It was in the tmbc, but eventually everyone got in. The poor kids were petrified though!

I'm finding that too, gigs at the tbmc have gotten extremely strict... not even ones where you would expect a large youth following.

havn't been to vicar st in ages.... too long to be honest. at least its not the village, horrible for ID there. I was working there one night, and didn't bring my wallet, I don't usually bring it in case i'm tempted to have 1 or 2 while i'm waiting about. but I had to wave my equipment in the bouncers face to get him to realise i'm meant to be there

one thing though, whelans have gotten easier on ID from what i've experienced. :D

hmm interesting.....got into franz fine anyway i was just a bit paranoid after the trouble at bell x1....as well as friends not getting in my friends ticket got stolen by a fat old crazy man and we practically had to wrestle him on the street (we're only ickle girls and he was all fat and crazy) but we didnt get it back cos he then he shoved it down his trousers  after some equally crazy girl came outa nowhere and pushed him onto the ground but it was ok cos the bouncers saw it happen and they let my friend in anyway but some complete stranger had the bright idea of ringing the gardai and then one turned up on a bicycle with a bogger accent (hee hee) (although it wasnt so funny at the time) and he was asking us our details including age with the bouncers standing right beside us and everyone was looking at us cos they thought we were in trouble and us with our fake passsports and ids which we had already shown to the bouncers and it was all very dodgy...

ANYWAY now im worried when i buy tickets for gigs cos im not sure if they're gonna ask for id so if people cud tell me any places they know that have started asking for id it wud be rather helpful.... :)

In Dublin venues concerning your usual rock/pop, The Village has been the most difficult, have always been asked for ID. And expect it too unless you are going to the unoccasional all ages gig.

Haven't been to Whelans in a good while now, can't really say if it has gotten less strict or not but I was not let in there a year or so ago and have not been back since.

Temple Bar Music Centre is grand one day and bad the next. Yet so far this year I have been to three gigs there and have not been asked, so right now I don't believe there are problems.

The Ambassador, Olympia Theatre, The Point, and Vicar Street have always been grand concerning ID (last time I was at Vicar Street was May, so it may have gotten stricter since then, unfortunetly).

    Hope this helps.
