unsymmetrical breasts

I have one breast that is a whole cup size smaller than the other(Ones C, the other, B) and would appreciate some advice on how other people cope with this...
My current bra is a wonderbra-type thing with a "gel implant" in the smaller breast. I hate it and don't feel at all confident that it looks ok.
I've heard of "chicken fillets" but have no idea how to get some - are they on sale in Dublin?
I would really appreciate some practical advice here..
    Thanks,
    a

are you fully developed do you reckon? I wouldn't worry about it too much until you are certain you are. In the mean time, I'd stick with the pads and the likes. Don't go getting surgery or anything. It's something that can be easily resolved so don't worry about it:)

Chicken fillets - you can get those in M&S.

Theres always the Air Bra . As far as I know (a chum has this) you can remove the air pocket things from it on either side independent of the other side. That could possibly work... although of course you are screwed if the other pocket bursts.

Nobody has completely symmetrical breasts anyway do they? If you're still a teenager then i wouldn't worry about it because it'll probably even out a bit when you're fully developed. But as far as i know, for the majority of women, the left breast is bigger than the right (no idea why though) so I wouldn't see it as anything to worry about.

But if its bothering you then the chicken fillet thingies are the way to go i guess. out of interest, has anyone tried them, and do they feel weird?

same with males. Left testicle is bigger than right. Just nature.

that wouldnt be as noticable as having one boob bigger than the other...especially if its a whole cup size bigger

I can understand how difficult it must be for you to get a bra that suits, i used to work as a lingerie fitter in a rather large department store in Dublin, and came across many women with difficulties in finding the right bra. The main thing i found was that women just didnt know much about bra's-this is from my own personal experience-. An awful lot of teenagers for example when they'r getting their first bra would go to say pennys and buy an under-wired bra, i kno thats what i did and several of my friends..

    BIG MISTAKE.

At that stage, ur really only begining to develop so the underwire isnt going to be as kind to you/move with u like a non wired one, and it may even affect your growth and breathing. When you're fully grown or 16 or older it isnt much of an issue because you dont develope as fast. Also wearing an underwired bra during pregnancy is not a good idea either-ur growing then too.

Its not only young ppl but ppl in their mid forties and that, didnt have a clue about sizes, about the difference btwn back size and cup size, or about wired or non wired bras.

The reason why i tell you not to get fitted in M&S is because countless times i had girls coming in wearing bras that were too big in the back and too small in the cup now this isnt a major problem if your going to wear the bra for a day or so..but after that...basicly its the back thats helping to keep your boobs up-the tighter the back the less likely it is that ur boobs will head south,(this does not neccessarily mean cleavage) and the appropriate cup size means that the wires not going to dig into u at the side or be too loose so ur boob goes under it...

Anyway several times i had girls coming in wearing say a 36 A after being measured in M&S-now a 36 back would suggest someone roughly of a size 14 dress size and A=one inch of boob (not v eloquent sorry) but these girls were like size 10, so when i measured them they came up as a 32 C..(i also more memorably had a girl come in who was mesured a 40 B (acquivilant of a siz 20 dress size or something and was actully a 34FF..how they got it wrong i dnt kno..)a tighter back and a more comfortable cup.

So these girls had gone and spent money on a bra that didnt fit them and got advice that was totally wrong. If you'r getting a bra go with the tightest back,it might feel a bit uncomfortable at first but the elastic will loosen-and when you wear it on the first(outside) clasp, so you can tighten as the elastic gives out-thats why buying a bra in a loose back is pointless a)not right fit b)it wont last as long!!!

Anyway to answer your query, what you could do is
    a) get properly fitted (i kno its a bit scary if you've never gottn it done b4 but its worth it and the places il name the girls there are all really professional and respectful) in places like clerys, debenhams, arnotts or evn bt's(JUST NOT M&S!!!)
b)you could try chickn fillets (@dunnes, arnotts, bts)but u cant wear them all the time as the excess weight cud damage your back-they are occasional wear
c)a bit drastic but you could get something like a masectomy bra thats specially designd with "pockets" for inserting things
d)you could get a bra thats like a gossard or a wonderbra that has inserts to boost your boobs-take one out of one side and leave one in on the other-same size lookin boobs-but again plunge bras are occasional, and its not a good idea to wear them all the time
e)get a bra made for you-normal decent bras are xpensive enuf anyway-especily if ur a student-but if u want to go the xtra distance you can get one made-especially for your size(theres one near a rail station in town-they'r in the fon book-they'r v good attentive, &fast) il find out what it is and post it

thats another common misconception a lot of ppl have about bras-just because your say 34 C in X brand doesnt mean you'l be 34 C in Y brand, you could be a 32 D or a 34 D even, you wont kno until you try them on and if you can get advice!!!its like jeans just cos ur a 10 in topshop doesnt mean ur a 10 in river island or dunnes chances are ur a12 in river island and a 8 in dunnes!

If your lost or want me to xplain anything PM me!

I hope this helps!I know i av an awaful time in finding the right bra to fit me, trial and error and getting the right advice is the most important thing!

thats odd, because the only bra's that ive found have fit me properly is the marks and spencers ones.

i was in penny's the other day actually, now the penny's bra's have never really fit me properly, but they had some lovely styles, so i went to try them on.

i tried on 4 bra's, all supposed to be a 34D (my size in m&s bra's which fit fine) none of them fit, and what was worse was that NONE of the bra's from penny's were the same size, even though they were all tagged as 34D's!

don't worry coz i seriosly know how your feeling. its definitley not the nicest feeling in the world every time your getting ready to go out asking yourself will anybody notice and even if they dont your paranoid that they will. and your too afraid to go to a doctor in case there is something seriously wrong and the whole embarassment factor too. and thinking what if im the only one like this. trust me your not.

There was a good and comprehensive thread on this in PI about a year ago, so this just shows that its a more common problem than you think.

Rather than post what I posted then (which would be close to the same thing), I'll link ya.

    have a read here

I know how you're feeling, I've got the same problem myself, and it used to bother me a lot. But then I realised that nobody noticed, and not even guys I'd been fairly close with either. Now I've been with my boyfriend for nearly a year, he doesn't care, and doesn't really bother me anymore. As for hiding it, just a little bit of padding in a good bra always evens them out for me. I'm fairly young yet and still developing (I think) so I haven't really considered doing anything serious about it.

yeah im with my boyfriend nearly two years now and telling him was one of the hardest things ive ever had to do. it was really emotional and definitley brought us closer.which can't be a bad thing. he doesnt care coz as he see's it breasts are breasts. well i've decided to get mine done for my 21st birthday. that's his present to me because he knows how much it upsets me and hates seeeing me that way

Hi everyone. Thanks you all SO much for your support(pardon the pun) and for taking the time to respond to my post.

    Alana, thanks especially.
I wonder if you have the address of that place that makes custom-made bras if you could post it, or e-mail me, I'd be so grateful.
Also I had been thinking about something like a masectomy bra, but I presume that they're only for women who've had a breast removed, or do people who have "lumpectomies" have a service for them. Again, I'd have no idea where to go; I presume that people who have been through a masectomy would go through their GP and be recommended where to go, but I would think that if I went to a GP, putting myself in the same category, they might think it strange.
Having breast cancer and having breast surgery as a result is obviously traumatic for a person who has had ordinary, healthy breasts. My "trauma", well it's not a trauma, it's something that I've been trying to deal with for 10 yrs or so. I'm 28 now. Sorry, I should've mentioned my age earlier.

And thanks esp to Syke, for linking to that other thread. I know that the girl who posted it, Shingles! is only 18, but I could identify completely with what she posted, about not being able to face wearing a t-shirt etc.

Just to update, and thanks to the earlier posters who told me that chicken fillets are available in M&S. I went in a while ago to the one on Grafton St. and they had two types- one, the the normal "chicken fillet" shape; the other was called "breast enhancers" which was a more roundy shape - €38, which I bought (I may go back and buy the other shape to "try it out" as well - they might look better in a non-underwired bra I also spent €29 on an underwired bra which has a slightly padded material(not padding) - I also have to consider the material, cos when I place the breast enhancer in my bra, I have to make sure that nipples are not peeping through, as they are not on the same plane!

The only bras I ever wear are underwired. I decided on impulse a while ago, while in Dunnes to buy their most Firm hold brand. When I tried it on at home, my boobs even with one "breast enhanceer" inserted looked like a pair of horrible cones/triangles - and even my "normal" perfectly shaped rounded C-cup breast looked like a little cone! What a waste of money.

Anyway thanks again for replying. I am now at a stage where I'm ready to go out shopping more and see what's out there. Would also appreciate any further advice based on what I've said above. (Plan to stick around on the boards, and hope that I can give some advice/responses to stuff that you post)
    Anna.
    :-)

I'm glad the thread was beneficial for you. I think threads like this are what boards are about.

I was in Hickies, the upholstry shop at the weekend (best not to ask) and saw that they had padding inserts there, they may be a cheaper option to trying out how you feel about the inserts.
