Tbh you will get ripped off no matter where you go in Dublin, I heavily advise buying it on the internet. Peats on Parnell St is probably your best bet though.

Because they're very popular atm I don't any where will be selling them cheap.

  • I got a nice new 512mb one off of ebay delivered today. The guy "sonnjah" had plenty of them and they were a steal at just over €100

Buy online, Took one week to deliver and it was my first purchase.

You probably could have done better than that on eBay, unless it's a really good model!

You can get the 256MB Creative Muvo on Peats.ie for E145. But those Muvo Mp3 Players are terrible! Can't add on any extra memory to them.

    I guess it's a matter of preference.

Sister got one for her boyfriend last Christmas. Got it outta the box - we all thought sound was terrible on it, found out you couldn't add any extra memory - back into the box and returned to store next day.

Went through a few Mp3 Players myself. Bought mostly in Canada. Got a Rio PMP300 (96MB - 64MB w/ 32MB smartcard) about 7-8 years (one of the first Mp3 players available) - worked on parallel port, was pretty sh*t but lasted me a while! Then, i got a Thomson Lyra 256MB (great MP3 player at the time but head of the USB cable on it broke and can't get a replacement for it anywhere - works fine but got no cable to transfer songs. If anyone finds a cable for it, they can have it!)

Got an 10GB iPod now (got it in Eircom's BB offer at the end of last year for E150) and am well happy with it.

And my advice to Cyrus - don't buy in high street shops! (with the exception of Peats who sometimes have decent offers on MP3 Players!)

Had an iPod myself, I was very pleased with it, Firmware was a little buggy but apart from that it was more or less perfect.

I got the MuVo because I got sick of having to lug the pod around with me.

Yeah, firmware on iPod can be quite troublesome at times!

Not had too much trouble with it myself. On a few occasions, i've had to reset it (by holding Play + Menu) after it froze (i noticed it can sometimes happen if you try to pause a song in the last second of it).

But one of the best things about the iPod is all the mods/downloads available for it. Some are great like the Cocktail Database. Get 'em here!

Sorry..... this post seems to have gone slightly off-topic!

After doing a fair bit of research (I'm looking for the same thing myself) I'd recommend this:

    http://www.iriveramerica.com/products/iFP-799.aspx

I don't know if they are for sale in Ireland but I am going to Singapore next week where hopefully I'll be able to pick one up.

I'm tempted to get one of the hard drive models such as the popular:

    http://www.iriveramerica.com/products/H140.aspx

But frankly I think it would be a bit to bulk to listen to while cycling etc. Plus the battery life on the smaller flash mp3 players is much better.

Let me know if you find any good deals in Dublin though.

Buy tomorrow's papers and save those Dixons ads. We've an offer going until monday for a 512mb MP Man MP3 player for €150-down from its usual price of €300. The offer is only valid, however, if you bring in the advertisment.

€300 for a 512mb player. €150 is pretty cheap for city prices, but the normal price just shows how much people who don't put in proper research get ripped off.

No offence to yourself Fenster, but I find most of the staff in Dixons are mostly clueless to technology. I am talking about the ones in Dublin though.

I cycle to work with it (iHP120), I always have a backpack so i stick it in it and clip the remote onto my jumper. the leather carry case has a good belt loop on it too. battery is less but still lasts about a week for me

As an alternative to Fenster's suggestion Marx Computers have an MP3 player for €95; only 256mb though. They are in Fairview.

Aye, there's only three tech geeks in my own store, myself among them. If you want a *really* nice pen drive for €150, I saw a 512mb one in Maplin last night that came in a read leather cover (as opposed to plastic). Looked really classy.
