I might have mentioned in another thread that this game was on Saturday -
My mistake - it is in fact on tonight at 8PM - One table satelites from 6PM.

Made my way in to the STT's they were set up as €32 to buy in winner gets 200 2nd got 100, personally feel winner should have got the full 220, as it means that your total buy in would be 52 if you get a ticket, small pointless point really, Any way played 1 STT got knocked out early and sat down to play another and duely went on to win it and sat down in the big game full of confidence after my STT win.
62 players bagan this event not bad when you consider its a 200 buy-in. Started off well earned table respect was hitting good pocket cards and they were hitting the flop as well, which is handy, and was building p a nice stack until our table was broken down and I was moved down stairs, and what insued was the longest period ever without a decent pocket card let alone 2 good pocket cards. One hand that really hurt me was JQo in the BB flop comes with a J I try to slow play it but Turn leaves str8 obvious and I loose a chunk of change. 32 hands without seeing a flop then with 2800 left I get J2 in the BB with the blinds @ 800 i get to see the flop Jxx, All In, chip l move all in Derry, huge chip leader calls with A5 and obviously hits his A. A great tournament with a good turn out. Hopefully the next event will be as well attended

Great tournament alright - I thought the standard of play was generally very high. 62 players isn't bad considering its the first time they have run this event.

I was knocked out about 21st or so. Nothing to report but I think my bad luck run is over as I did actually win a couple hands where I was favourite and it was my own idiocy that caused me to lose the few chips I had. From what I hear, Derry, Joe and Alan Gibbons were chip leaders with 6 to go.
    First prize was over 5K.

I think this event can only get more popular and I'm glad to see that there is another big one to look forward to every month.

I think the initial plan was 2nd saturday of every month so as not to be too close to the Fitz game. They changed to thurs this month so as not to clash with the Ireland France game. My guess is that the next event will be on the second saturday of November.
I heard talk of a 50+50 satelite to the main Winter festival event, next thurs I think.
If I hear anything more definite I'll let you know.

Still well annoyed over an incident in the Merrion last night. Was playing an STT for a ticket and after about 40 minutes or so I was heads up with Vera with around 6 times the amount of chips. The tournament was due to start in a few minutes and there had been calls from downstairs to "hurry things up". Vera suggests that she just takes second leaving me with first and we could go down and register. This would have been fine with me but "observers" around the table protested widly. People who werent even in the game. One old fella even got well agressive when I said that a deal had just been made. So our observers suggest we play each hand blind. I aint happy about this but it felt like it was 10-1 against me. So I reluctantly go along with this farcical charade, i'm dealt 52os, but have already been forced into calling an all in before the cards are dealt, and loose it. I then at least make a plea that I can have the option to look at my cards and fold if I wish. After some deliberation, our on lookers allow it (mob rule tournament direction I guess youd call it) but now the blinds will go up every hand. 500-1000, I have 5-3os, cant call. 800-1500, 7-3os cant call, by now my stack has dimished, loose another, find myself all in, win that, blinds up, Im all in again and loose to a deuce. Im fcuking fuming at what has just transpired, 40 minutes good work for what, a fcuking lottery, a crap shoot. Had we been allowed play with the blinds as they were (4-8 i think) Im not saying I would have taken it down, but with a 6:1 chip lead there is a good chance I would have. Still got a 100 but was so pissed off that I didnt bother stumping up another 120 quid to play in the main one. Shambolic.

I can hear pokertroll and actiondan sharpening their knives around now but im not having a dig at the merrion, im just telling it like it happened. I had a nice meal there and played brag with a hot eastern european lassy dealer and it look good since they moved it around. Im just annoyed with what went down.

    J.P.

I think you are right to be well annoyed over that I was watching and you seemed none too pleased, why would it affect anybody else what deal you make, especially as they weren't even involved?

Did they try and make you take your 100 in credits or did they sump up the cash, I heard her trying to convince someone else that the 100 2nd prize had to be in vouchers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,383 ✭✭✭Juan Pablo

Nah made sure I got the cash, something along the lines of "Will I register you now sweetie"

    "Nah, cash please"

    Sounds desperate JP.
Who were the mob of observers and why were they even listened to? Did they work for the club? Name them and shame them. Surely it was a matter between yourself and Vera and these guys shouldn't have been using your stakes for a cheap thrill. I certainly wouldn't have stood for it, I would have walked to the cash desk once the deal was suggested. FFS, you have already won the ticket - why should you play this blind all-in charade?

The main instigator was some old lad who i recognise from the merrion who got real aggressive, leaning forward from the other end of the table saying threateningly "listen sonny, if she has chips left she has a right to play". Then some english dealer got invloved, (to whom I had to explian they way the blinds and button worked heads up) to the extent that he was effectivly playing, putting the chips out and the like. I was sitting in seat 2 so I was right in the corner, felt penned in with all this nonsence going on around me. In hindsight I probably should have gotten up and walked away but when you are sat down back to the wall with a load of people standing around you things seem a little different.

c'mon you can say it JP!

    The Merrion is Sh1t!!!

    oh oh.....I hear footsteps......

Anyplace that holds a €400 buy in Omaha tournament cant be ****e in Juan Pablos book. Rickety tables or no rickety tables. But then again I'd play an Omaha tourney out on the pavement if there were enough takers! :D

Ive never been to the Merrion....i know, I know...but the schedules don't suit me. I'm happy with the Fitz - Luke, dealers, staff, atmosphere etc.

After hearing some of the stuff about the Merrion I am not being encouraged to go there. They have some serious PR to do.

    Bad show. Big time.

I know it's corny but this is for real....

    Good customer experience....Tell 8 people
    Bad customer experience......Tell 19 people.

DeV can do the maths on that one for the Merrion.....

Was it that big fat guy - John I think - I had a similar experience with him in a fitz satelite last week. Also, I remember a time when he wouldn't tip the dealers after sharing a tourney - miserable, agressive F***.

tbh - I don't think the Merrion can be blamed for what happened. But i think they should take more control of the STT to ensure things like this don't happen

As I said I'm in no way dissing the merrion here, I'm just telling it like it is. They have some dice thing that was pretty cool, didnt win though :( . And they have the festival coming up so i didnt really want to stir it up and get a name for myself as a trouble maker. The old lad (kinda redish face with a mole, dunno if its the same cnut) would strike me as someone who wouldnt tip. Cnut. Anyway, I'm drawing a line under it. This type of jazz happens from time to time, its just not the nicest when it happen to J.P.
