Lots of national sports are predominately played in their country of origin. The GAA has many clubs around the world and connection with other sports such as Shinty in Scotland and of course Australian Rules Football. The 1947 All-Ireland Football Final was played in New York. New York and London both play in the All-Ireland Championships. While these clubs mainly have Irish people or people of Irish origins, they also have local non-Irish members. As to within Ireland, there are plenty of non-Catholics involved. Sam Maguire himself was a Protestant as was Jack Boothman, a Presdient of the GAA in the 1990's. There are lots of non-Fianna Fáil people too. Fine Gael TD Jimmy Deenihan was part of the great Kerry team of the 1970s. None of the people in Northern Ireland would vote for them, although it is almost exclusively Catholic up there. The GAA's origins go back to an effort to revive Irish culture at a time it was repressed, so naturally it retains some of that element to it. Still, your assertion is far from true. Anyway, we enjoy the games themselves, whatever about all the other stuff.
