    Hi There,

I just got a bunch of stuff delivered from JES in Germany (soundcard, ram, graphics card etc.) to beef up my Dell Dimension 2400.

The Ram and Souncard work fine but I cannot get the Graphics Card to work at all. For a start it wont fit into the PCI slot (it seems like it is upside down or something).

Here's the soundcard. Unfortunately most the info is in German.

    http://www.jes-computer.de/product_info.php?pID=17577

I wonder is the fact it's PCI-Express as opposed to standard PCI the problem?

Or are German PCI slots the other way round?

Either way I'd appreciate any advice.

I will probably try to get a refund on the item as it arived in pretty bad condition (static bag ripped, cd badly scratched etc.) It's going to cost a bit to post it back to Germany though :(

    Thanks in advance,
    Robert

Em your screwed mate. Pci-e or pci-express is a replacement bus for agp. It is not backwards compatable with pci.

You need to get an agp card if your system has an agp port.

Bad news for you but you have the PCI-Express version.

If its any consolation its not a very good graphics card anyway.

PCI slots are standard all over the world.

Lol unlucky mate.. you need a AGP card or a PCI-E featured board. Get on the blower to jes (phone or E-mail) explain the cock up on your behalf and pray that they give you a refund .. i think there is actually a thread here related to jes where a rep from jes posts gewt on his case ASAP.. or alternativly you can sell it to me. :D

    Thanks guys,

I don't have any agp slots so am quite limited in what I can get. Are there any 128mb PCI graphics cards around?

Anyway I'm going to try for the refund. Can anyone speak German???

I dont think the Dell 2400 has AGP at all. Your best (only) bet is to get something like a radeon 9200 or an older nvidia card (think the ti4200's were available in pci forms)
