Broken items during shipping

    A mate of mine's GF shipped a few items over from her home in the UK using http://www.budget-shipping.com/

    On arrival the delivery guy handed her the box - upside down. When she inspected the items many were damaged or outright broken - for example crockery. They had been adequately wrapped and the box labeled fragile.

    Naturally she is quite upset and wants some compensation. She did not get the optional insurance.

    What are her rights in this situation? Obviously the service did not meet with her expectations...
