    Greetings,

I'm studying Pro Tools and will be doing my 201 exam in a few weeks. I was wondering if there are any bands out there who have demos recorded on Pro Tools that they'd offer for me to mix. If there's anybody out there who has a mix they're not entirely happy with I'd be delighted to work on it, free of charge. PM or leave a message here. Thanks.

I've got a few songs. We recorded them in Dun Laoghaire college on they're protools and then I got them to burn me a copy of all the sound files and I mixed it myself at home on different software. But i still have the files and they should import back into protools alright if you want em

Question - slightly off topic - but we recently recorded a demo, was done with ProTools. If we wanted to re-mix it we'd need it in the pro tools format correct? Or say we wanted to go and get it mastered, we'd need the original pro tools files? I'm wondering as all we got as a master was a burned CD.

You just got a mixed audio track? You can get that mastered, but if you wanted to remix you'd need the pro-tools files.

All your tracks (drums, guitars, bass, vocals, etc) are recorded as individual .wav files and there is also your pro-tools session file and any fades etc, they all have their own file within the folder that was created when you were recording the song. You'd need them to remix.

Most sequencers now support the OMF format. It contains the raw audio and not much else. Automation, fx data, etc will be lost, but thats no problem if you intend to remis from scratch anyway. Sonar, Cubase, Logic, Pro Tools can all import and export OMF/OMF2 AFAIK. I think it was part of an initiative to create a standard format for sharing video.

    Here's some more info...

Hmm... I kind of wanted the raw files, to see what I might be able to do myself, also wouldn't of been averse to sending you a copy and see what you can do. I'm not unhappy with what we have, but there's a few things I think we need to tweak.

Give whoever recorded it a call as soon as you can. These things have a habit of getting erased if it's only on their hard disk.

So Doc, whats Alsihad like to work with? I understand the midi implementation is a bit basic? Only ever played with the old version of PT lite that they used to give away - didn't think much of that. Still I guess it is the industry standard - and you have to know it to work in high profile DAW studios.

Are you doing that course by correspondence?

Good luck with the exams anyway.

No, it's tagged onto part 3 of the City and Guilds course I've been doing part time for the last couple of years. I like it a lot I must say. It's not as good as it could be in midi but it's a lot better than it was (I have 6.4). As an overall package it's hard to fault.

Just have to talk to the bank manager about thr beans for a G5 though ;)
