    Hi,
Where is the chepaest place ot register a .com domain.

If I resgister , can I just pay the $10 (for example) and then wait a few months before I get hosting.

Can I get hosting from a different company or will I be expected to go with the company who I registered wiht.

What is the best way of doing this?

I use www.itsyourdomain.com. They charge $15 per domain. They send me nice reminders when my time to renew is coming up.

You can leave a domain unhosted as long as you like.

You can host with any company.

Whichever registrar you use, make sure they're icann approved. That means that your registration is instant.

    Hi

    Try My Domain $8.50,

You don't even need to register the domains with them and they also do DNS management, URL forwarding and you can also create e-mail address using your own domain.

    Thanks

I've always found name resolution on .tk's to be very slow, in comparision to others, but that's probably in my head.

.tk's are for community sites and people tinkering about with stuff, not for serious business. Serious business will register a .ie or a .com (preferably a .ie - dunno why, it's a personal stigmatism I guess). When I see a .tk, I feel the same way as I used to when I saw a geocities url.

seamus, you say that .tk domains are not for serious buisness.Yes they can be if you want.A domain is a domain.Geocities domains are subdomains and are crap. But .tk is way better.Your implying just if someone sees for example in an add a .tk at the end of the web address its not proffesional and its cheap.Wrong.What is name resolution anyway?never heard of it

.tk definitely does not look professional and would be a bad move for a company IMHO. There is no way in hell I'd give credit card details or anything like that on a .tk site, think that says enough...
As Seamus said they're great for people just messing around but not for businesses.

Agreed. But I personally would see it on a par with registering your company in a different country where you could operate for nothing (if that was legal obviously). Imagine trying to contact a company and seeing an address in Kula Lumpur listed for them. You'd think twice before dealing with them.

Basically, if a company is that cheap that it won't shell out a few measly euro for a domain, instead relying on a free one, then in my eyes, it makes them that much less desirable to deal with. What else are they cutting back on?

You're right. A domain is a domain. A bit like a phone number, it doesn't mean anything, it's just a means of contacting someone. But by the very same virtue, who would you deem a more reliable company, one listed with a 1800 freephone number, or one listed with an 087 mobile number?

The difference being that it's text. To a lot of people, a domain name means nothing, but to people who surf the web, and may be familiar with DNS, it can mean something. Again, back to the phone example, if you didn't know the difference between 1800 and 087, you wouldn't regard the two companies any differently. But since we do know the difference, we draw different conclusions about the companies.
Your implying just if someone sees for example in an add a .tk at the end of the web address its not proffesional and its cheap.
Actually, I specifically said that *I* regard it as unprofessional and cheap. I wouldn't draw conclusionsabout any else's opinion.
