I used to have windows nt on my dell latitude notebook i wanted to put xp home on it so i decided to format the drive and try and run windows xp,i partitioned my drive to ntfs as i heard its better for xp but my installation keeps stopping at "setup will complete in 13 minutes" and on the progress bar it says registering components!! ive reformatted again and tried to reinstall it but it keeps stopping at this point???? and for some reason its not even asking me for the authentication key anymore near the start of the whole process(if this makes any difference)??

ive been trying to install this now for the last two days and my head is wrecked can somebody please please help me or tell me what im doing wrong!!

If it's not asking for the key any more it's trying to complete the first installation. the only thing i can suggest is to reformat your drive again to make it start from scratch and remove any pcmcia cards ect that you have in your laptop. also make sure your disk isn't all scratched up

Have you tried a low level format, then reinstall.

If it had NT on it I'm going to guess that it is rather old?
What are the basic specs of the lappy?

this happens to me (even with brand new HDD and CD)...i just ejected the cd, and put it back in...it seemed to "wake up" then.
