OK as Hobbes posted about the Fight Club 2 DVD set ( One my too buy list, need more money !!!) I reckon I should clue you lads into 2 more excellent Region 1 Box sets.

The 1st is the Terminator 2 Ultimate Edition 2 DVD set with 3 Versions of the movie on 1 Disk and another disk full of extras. Its pure class a definate must buy (apparently the Region 2 version will be out in Jan 2001).

The 2nd which I only got delivered yesterday is The Rocky Horror Picture Show 25th Aniversity Edition again with 3 Versions of the film on the 1st Disk and a sh!t load of extras on the 2nd, I've just watched one of the Documentaries and some of my favourite scenes from the film on this one so far but at fisrt glances again a very good addition to the collection.

    Thats my tuppence smile.gif

Be warned the T2 ultimate does not work with certain DVD players.

I have three DVD players at home and it didn't work with any. Mac (didn't run), PC (Crashed my PC when I got to the menu), TV (hung the machine). In fact it had a white slip of paper saying the DVD will not work in the box, not to mention the Queue I was in returning it had a load of other people with the same problem.

MI2 has some nice extras, as does Magnolias

I have the T2 Ultimate edition DVD and yes - I can concur that it doesn't work with some DVD players.

In PowerDVD, if you try to go to the special edition, it actually goes to the standard theatrical edition. If you then try to force it to play the special edition by browsing via the program to that chapter, the program crashes out. Seems to work fine in Cinemaster 98 and Cinemaster 2000 but I prefer PowerDVD myself (more features... and a screen capture which works).

Still - it's an excellent DVD... the 3rd version of the movie seems to be hidden somehow though... anyone know how to get to it?

    Terminator 2 Easter Eggs:

    _______________________
    Feature:
    Special Extended Edition

    How to find it:
Although this DVD doesnt street until 8/29, a shop near me fudged up and put it out. On side A of the disc, select the Special Edition version of the film. You will notice the symbols that kinda look like Roman numerals on the side. Now this code only works when the Special Edition was selected. On the main menu, using the numbers on your remote, type in 8,2,9,9,7. This may not work easily on all players, as I had difficulty. The code refers to the day the nuclear holocaust was supposed to happen in T2, 8/29/97. (Is it just coincidence that the DVD is supposed to come out on 8/29?) This code enables the special edition with two extra scenes. One of the T1000 searching John's room, and the original "Happy" ending.

    Comments:
If you can't get this code to work, just flip the disc and look at the special features and you can view these scenes seperately too.

    _______________________
    Feature:
An easier way to unlock the extended cut

    How to find it:
When you're trying to unlock the special version of T2, make sure you enter 8,2,9,9,7 individually. So you would press 8, then hold down enter until the roman numeral like character flashes yellow, and so on until all the characters flash yellow and the words: The Future Is Set, is there.

    _______________________
    Feature:
    Random sounds and effects

    How to find it:
On side B of the Terminator 2 ultimate edition DVD, there are a few buttons hidden in the main menu. When you first start the DVD it takes u to a menu which displays the information programs, visual campaigns, and data hub. If you wait 30 seconds, random things will happen on the menu. One displays a button on the bottom left side of the menu that says join the resistance, which takes you to the same message on the CD-ROM button on side A. The other thing that happens is that it will show you the same button, but with a sound wave effect. This takes you to a Swelltone trailer. The other thing that happens is the the T-1000's head will appear in the middle of the screen and will say "Get out", and blend back in with the menu.

    Comments:
Sometimes if you wait 30 seconds, nothing might happen at all. These things do happen, but only at random.

    _______________________
    Feature:
    Japanese trailers

    How to find it:
In trailer screen, youll find a small japanese flag, click on it, waaaalaaa....T2 trailers in japanese!

    _______________________
    Feature:
    Extended Special Edition

    How to find it:
I found after highlighting sp ed of t2,in the menu area.Try hitting button number 3 on your keypad, very quickly. This will take you to chapter 3 in the movie. Then press the menu key again and the extended sp ed will have been opened.

    Fight Club

    Catalogue -

    How to find it:
Put in Disk 2 go to Advertising go all the way to the bottom of the screen until you see a happy face click on it and there u go. This is actually called the FIGHT CLUB COLLECTION but it is a catalogue.

    Feature:
    DVD credits

    How to find it:
On the movie disc, go to the main menu and run your cursor around the middle right hand side of the screen. You will find a smiley face. This will take you to the DVD credits/special thanks screen.

    Feature:
    "Spliced frames"

    How to find it:
I'm not sure this qualifies as an Easter Egg, but on Disk 2 of Fight Club, in the production section and on the principle photography of the projection booth scene its pretty boring until the camera changes and you get exactly what the scene is talkking about, a big dick shows up for no more than a frame, I got a laugh, its really hard to find, but its there, I don't have the exact time, and it wouldn't matter anyway because its there for such a short period of time. Just thought you'd like to know.

    Comments:
Not exactly an easter egg, but we got a lot of email about this one. -- YrDVDed.

While we're on the subject of DVD's. I was thinking of buying a stand alone player for Xmas and was wondering if you guys had any recommendations on which one to buy(IR£300 max)Do I need a special TV???. I already have a 5 speaker Surround Sound system and figured I'd treat myself to a DVD player this Xmas.

    Thanks
    Wes

    Cheese...

I'm reliably informed that when it comes to standalone DVD players for your TV (and I hope it's a high-quality widescreen - preferably digital TV at that), that Sony just can't be beaten on quality.

As regards where to buy, I'd reccommend DID Electrical in Tallaght, Swords or Mountjoy Square. Prices are good, staff, they're informed, informative and know what they're doing, they're friendly and they're 100% Irish.

That Fight Club big dick is on the VHS version as well, right at the end of the movie - tying in with what Pitt talks about in the projection room scene. Just before the credits roll, it flashes a dick for a single frame and you remember what he was talking about.
I laughed my ****ing ass off at that, and no-one else I was watching it with knew what I was laughing at...

OK one thing you should consider when buying your DVD Player. Do you want it multiregion out of the box.

The Sony players are very good but you will have to get it chipped to play multiregion which will cost you another £100 approx. You can get a drive that is hackable via remote controls, I have a Samsung 709 which is multiregion enabled with a Aiwa Stereo remote (this player is no longer available). Tescos are selling the Wharfdale 750s which apparently is also multiregion enabled via its own remote control and is a OK player as well (I think its around £269).

Check out sites like www.709online.com www.dvdtimes.co.uk for more details.
