Help/Advice: Thinkpad T22 Screen

I'm looking at a mate's Thinkpad T22 and theres some gunk/stuff/crud (don't know what it is) behind the LCD panel showing up as blotches on the display. I suspect this could easily be cleaned-off/removed and the display would be fine (blotch-free). So what I need to know is how hard is it to dismantle the screen of this laptop to get at the back of the LCD panel? Especially what pitfalls to look out for.

Anyone got any advice, tips etc? (detailed instructions even better!!)

I have taken the lcd panel on my mac powerbook to bits to replace the backlight - definitely not for the faint hearted. As for getting gunk out, I have my doubts. I was pretty careful and I got some extra gunk in.

Viz blotches, are you absolutely sure that gunk/dirt at the back is the cause? Most blotches I've ever heard about are some sort of deterioration caused possibly by uneven pressure on the screen due to a variety of causes. The actual lcd panel is pretty tightly sealed, the chances of getting anything in behind it is pretty close to zilch unless you take the actual panel to bits as opposed to taking the lid of the laptop to pieces. So I am sceptical that this is the cause.

Replacement screens for the T22 are fairly easy to come by on ebay. The only catch is which T22 are you talking about - as far as I know there are a bunch of different models - so you need to get the right size screen - in general a whole range of screens will fit into any given laptop so shopping round is worthwhile.
