Strange Excel Problem

    Hi,

When I open an excel document on my PC it works fine most of the times, but recently, I have been experiencing a strange problem. When I click on a cell, and then move the mouse (without holding down either button) the cells get highlighted as if I was holding down the left button. No matter where I move the mouse, the cells that it is moved over get highlighted. Once this happens I have no option but to Alt-F4 the program, as no other buttons will work. This is not happening with any other Office applications so I fairly sure its not a problem with my mouse. Has this happened to anyone else?

I am using Windows 2000 with Excel 2000

Have you tried putting the Office 2000 disk in the drive, it will give you a repair option.

Failing that Uninstall Excel then reinstall it.

longshot but anyway: If you're working in a cell or have a bunch of cells selected I think the buttons are all automatically greyed out. Are you able to click to another cell after it happens and see if button functionality returns by any chance?

I used to have this problem on my old computer (IBM T22), never was able to fix it, but had a cure for it without closing excel, unfortunately can't quite remember what it was....

    Try 1) alt-tab, 2) atrl-alt-del 3) or hit the scroll wheel....

Sorry I'm not much help, but I thought i'd sympathise :(

I've come across this a few times in NT and it's been the mouse that was causing the problem. Do you have a spare mouse you can try?

    good luck,
    0.

    Other stupid stuff
    Reboot
Press the shift keys in case they are dirty (are you using "stickykeys in accessability")

    eraser2k.exe is a M$ program to remove office 2k http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=239938
It removes more than the remove all option - but I reckon it still leaves traces

    Anything to do with this?
