well you asked for my FAVOURITE, not necessarily the best.... the following are my favourite because they were simply great at the time that i watched them if you know what i mean, they arent the best, but they bring back the most memories for me, about when i saw them and what i was doing

    The fog:
watched this for the first time with my first girlfriend, it was the first film we saw together, and it was in her house while her parents were away, but were too young to erm.... and anyway it was holloween, and the fog is almost always on at holloween, she was scared to bits and kept hanging on close to me, which was very kewl for me at the time (hey i was young ok)

    Poltergeist
when i first watched this film i nearly cwapped myself, and would have were i not watching it with my older brother - he got it out form the video store and let me sit in, its not a particularly scary film (i say now, but back then.....), but there are those times when you dont expect ANYTHING from a film, and you are young, that it just delivers in the best (or worst hehe) way.

    pet semetary
stephen king at his best i believe, definatly a film that changed my life, the next morning i dug up my dog (which i had buried in the back yard) and brought him to a nice field, and prayed, hehe, film didnt really scare me, but hey i wasnt taking ANY chances smile.gif

    BAD TASTE
watched this at home years ago, while it was still banned in ireland, Channel4 broadcasted it, and was i ever grateful.
some of you may call it a humorous film, (even tho its classed as a horror) and i'll tell the truth, this is a classic, prolly the funiest, goriest (at the time), most insane film i have EVER seen without question
    definatly a MUST see

    tommyknockers
nice film, i enjoyed it, and it was scary enough, watched it in the cinema, again with a girlfriend, brings back memories, because she broke up with me afterwards, and i felt like killing someone on the way home, by shoving needles into each of his temples hehe

    nuff said really

    Alien
    The Thing
    Poltergeist
    Event Horizon
    Candyman.

eh the Tommyknockers??? Pure crap. Jimmy Smits I mean come on, and they changed the ending to a nice happy clappy one so all the Yanks wouldn't get upset!! ah diddums!!!!

The book is ten times scarier, and one of King's best, but like most movie adaptations of his stuff, the film was total b0llocks.

    Alien - great
    Exorcist - disturbing
    Event Horizon - original
Hellraiser - Skin eating .. Hmm

Dawn of the Dead - funny now .. but at 10yrs of age it was the film.

    JAK.

Psycho and Halloween were good too in their own ways

I can't admit to having watched a lot of horror movies, but those I have watched inspired no confidence in the medium for portraying that genre. In general, I think, horror is far better brought across through the medium of a well written book than that of a well written or directed movie... couldn't possibly name a top 5.

As for the Exorcist, it took me a couple of views of the movie to actually appreciate it properly... of course taking into account when it was made and what attitudes to movies, horror and religion were like 25 years ago. It helped that on the DVD there were extra features such as documentaries about it which made me appreciate the story and the movie all that bit more. ... so!... I do think it's an important piece of the history of movies, even though the first time I went to see it (when it came back to the cinema a couple of Hallowe'ens ago), myself and my friend who went to it just couldn't stop laughing...

    Alien
    Event Horizon
    The Omen
    Candyman

Stir of Echoes really creeped me out, although I wouldn't say it "scared" me as such.
