Body hair: Turn on or turn off?

Basically, i'm one of them hairy(ish) fellows. Got a nice cultivation going on my rearend, and a moderate coating across the chest.

But recently i've been getting the impression that this is turning off prospective girlfriends. A friend of mine was (i thought) making a few advances on me, but ever since i was wandering around semi-naked (swimming pool :p) she seems to have stopped. Or i imagined it :p

The question is, is body hair on a guy a turnoff for women, or a turn on, or does it matter? Guys, no impersonating women and scewing the results. I am (and have been) contemplating some kind of hair removal , but i amn't really sure if i should or not. Part of it is a personal thing, i don't like my hairy ass or chest, but i'd leave the legs alone.

Men, drop a line as to how hairy you'd considar yourselves (quite a nice coating, Moderate, light or none) and women, you say how much of a turn off it might be...

    Lose the ass hair, tbh.

    Yuck.

I have a hairy chest and its never held me back...some girls I've been with really were into that...(in particular an asian chick I was with once....)

Think probably most girls dont like hair on the back....which is understandable enough I suppose...someone posted up here on boards (PI) before about having shaved his ass, and how bad an idea it was....its going back a while now iirc but you should prolly check that thread out before you do it to yourself....

Can be nice to look at, a hairy chest that is, and fun to run your hands tru but bit limiting and a turn off if you enjoy using your tongue...

Is this ass-hair just between the crack, or does it cover the buns completely?
Like I'd say if it's hair in the crack that peeps out even though your ass-cheeks are closed, it'd look fairly rotten... especially if there are dangleberries involved.
Actually if it was matted enough, you could grow it as your tail and pretend to be a monkey.
    Invest in a scissors methinks.

When it comes to pointless hair growth I really envy women... I know the girls have to wax and veet/immac and whatever else, but as a guy, it's horrible to see a few small ones starting to grow somewhere manky like right down your belly, and you just know in a few years it's going to get all long and thick like the rest.

But hey, men are hairy and smelly... don't like it? Maybe you're a lesbian.

Well, its kind of an all over coating, inc crack. i'd love a permanent solution to remove it from the crack area. Dangleberries are not cute! trust me :p Any suggestions on how to lose the ass hair? Cheaply/permanently?

    Hairy chests are great.
I really miss hair when there's a lack of it.

    OMG
    Men SHOULD be hairy!
It's a great, masculine thing, and is what separates you from the girls.......
I think hairy men are dead sexy - it is meant to be there. A man is yummy *au naturel* nothing more vile (to me) than a man who would depilate ANY part of his bod.

AFAIK, the only permanent solution is electrolysis.
I think that guy from BROS had it done on his beard-line... never has to shave.
Costs a huge amount from what I've seen on a quick google, the larger the area you want treated - the more expensive it'll turn out to be.
But it'd probably look worse having a 100% bare ass with a big circle of hair around it covering your legs and back. ;)

It seems regular immac'ing (or whatever) is the most cost-effective solution.
Actually, a question for the immac users... does the hair grow back thicker like it does with shaving or not?
Er, just out of curiosity of course :o

In relation to the women with facial hair:

Its generally old ladies that have actual beards. I can almost understand that as when you get older you care less and less about your appearance or what people think of it. They simply dont care that they look like old men in skirts rather than old ladies.

As for young ones! I can even understand butch lesbians or earth mother airy fairy arty type girls letting the moustache grow. "Like, its not my problem man its....like your problem...I'm expressing my natural femininity as Gaia would want" :D:D

What I cannot understand are girls that know they have a problem as they have gone to the beautitican to have it bleached......and therein lies the problem. Now I can see and feel 3mm long white hairs instead of see and feel 3mm long black hairs. How can you see your facial hair problem and not see that bleaching has not cured the problem.

I really tried to put my issues with facial hair problems aside and try and convince myself that I was being silly, that it wasn't a big deal, that I was eliminating prospective partners or even one night stands over something insignificant. Then I locked lips with one such girl who was goodlooking in most other respects. I'm sorry, feeling more stubble on her upper lip than was on mine....eeeeugh! :D:D All was not lost but when I dropped the hand and moved it further south, I met the pubes a lot earlier then I would have liked and in the words of any good news of the world reporter.....made my excuses and left!! :D:D.....Shudders.... :D:D

I had my chest waxed once, I wish now that I didnt more hair grew back. I dont have much there, but all the girls that I've been with, seem to have run their hands over it, so it may mean that they like it.

You could always go for the back, crack and sack waxing. But dont.

Funny term, but oh my God... SACK WAXING??!
    Not in a million years.
Hair removal "down there" is a whole dangerous area... the last thing you want is an itchy sack... people might get the wrong idea like

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,182 ✭✭✭Tiriel

a guy who cares too much about this is just insecure in the first place. I really wouldn't worry about it, a girl isn't going to make up her mind about you based on how hairy your behind is and if she does then you're better of rid of her!!!

That be me alright, but i'm working on it. I can actually hold an intelligent conversation with a girl without going red and running away! One day soon... :D

Thanks for all yer help. I think i'll be leaving the ass hair alone for the moment, and see what happens.

And as for sack waxing... ARE YOU MAD! thats just wrong.

Would prefer a guy who was not hairy all over, but would rather a hairy guy than one who shaved it off. In the end, it does not really matter, it is the person that counts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,964 ✭✭✭✭tk123

WHY would a guy get his sack waxed?!?! Is it to make things look bigger or what?! I'd be a bit put off if I was with a guy and realised he'd been waxing down there! I don't know why you guys are making an issue of it really - if the girl can see your hairy ass you've already scored so whats the prob!? :p

I agree, if i felt a guys legs and they were completely smooth, or worse felt stubbly, i'd find it really weird. I can understand a guy wanting to wax a hairy back or shoulders, but all of the guys i know have hair on their legs and chest so i dont understand why its such a huge turn off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

Well I am a hairy bastard and any women I have been with recently have gone wild at the sight of my hairy chest !!!! Its a matter of choice some women won't like it, others will rip off your shirt and ravish you. Have fun ;)

(the ass hair maybe a turnoff thou!!! Reminds of that episode of Father Ted where they are on the plane :D)

I thought all guys had hair growing in their ass crack? I certainly do and the rest of me isn't terribly hairy. My legs are very hairy but I have none at all on my back and only a small tuft on my chest and a "treasure trail" on my abs.

Also, I wouldn't find a hairy ass crack or a lot of pubic hair to be a turnoff on a woman. What is a major turnoff is the completely bald look down below. Wouldn't be too keen on beards and 'taches on women although I have known a couple of gorgeous Indian girls who happend to have pretty noticeable taches and the hair wouldn't put me off at all :)

My missus loves my hairy chest, legs, arms, etc. ... does things for her. A (very) hairy back would be a no-no though.

I hate overly hairy guys. Yeeuch. I don't mind a lightish coating on the legs but really hairy guys definitely turn me off.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,204 ✭✭✭bug

only baboons are supposed to have ass hair.

Im not fond of hairy men I have to say.
Hairy shoulders, back, ass is a big no no for me, now Im not talking about a little bit, but carpet boy would definitley not be attractive to me.
Same I suppose if I went around with hairy armpits- only germans i imagine would find it attractive....

anyhow wax strips- if you really want to get rid - you can get them in any chemist, get the girlie ones and pretend its for a girlfriend if your scarlet asking for them.

Word of advice if you have a bit near your lower back its best to trim it rather than wax or shave it. Ingrown hairs are very dangerous in that area, as they can get infected. so wax bum, trim lower back.:D

i'm one for getting rid of all.... its a turn off if theres to much hair

See this is why porn degrades men, it gives women unrealistic expectations of men... in the real world men have big hairy arses and a big fat gut (although some porn is unfortunately accurate in this respect).
But men already have to shave their faces every day, Jesus give us a break here.

    Eeh... I don't think that.

But there is an acceptable level of hairyness, and then there is great swathes of thick wiry hair thats long enougn to be combed over the entire ass cheek area.

    Thats just wrong.

it's natural, what's the big deal?!

Natural? So are women with B.O. and hairy armpits.

Santa, by that logic you could stretch "natural" as broad as to encompass cancer, syphilis etc..

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 5,945 ✭✭✭BEAT

Well in my personal opinion I like men smooth, no body hair above the thighs and below the eyes, because I like to use my tongue/mouth and licking/kissing/biting hairy areas is gross.

It is a turn off for me to be with a reallyhairy man,
but that is just my personal preference. ;)

So are you guys saying that my shoulder hair is a turnoff? Surely that can't be true

Actually recently I shaved my head and my mates were kind enough to tell me that I didn't shave far enough down my neck as my backhair was showing over my t-shirt

Are you saying that this isn't attractive to the opposite sex?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,523 ✭✭✭ApeXaviour

Don't mind them bullman, it's only a fashion thing.. Looky see now soon hair will be back in like it was in the 70's.. It's already starting

I think you're missing my logic entirely.
It was in reference to this:
    Beruthiel wrote:

it's natural, what's the big deal?!
Let me flesh it out a bit...
Beruthiel argues that men shouldn't worry about body hair because it's natural... I put it to people that a lot of the things men and women change about themselves are also natural, yet to leave them un-remedied would be unthinkable for most Irish men/women (ie. armpit hair on women, a three-day stubble on a man with an important job)... so why is the line drawn at men worrying about arse hair just because it's natural?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,488 ✭✭✭SantaHoe

    ApeXaviour wrote:

And of course to use your logic; you wouldn't leave cancer untreated because it was natural would you?
