daily backup of work

There have been a lot of threads about people backing up there harddrives.

Most of the time people recommend Norton Ghost.

I don't want to make disk images or anything fancy. I have a work drive on my pc and a work drive on an external hardrive also.

At the end of the day I want to copy the pc "work" folder to the external "work" folder only copying new files and any files that are updated.

I don't need compression or anything. I just want something more efficent than copy and paste. Something similar to the Maxtor drives "One-touch" backup utility.

Does any one have a suggestion? Ghost seems a bit excessive but I could be mistaken.

    Thanks for any advice.

If you have broadband, one option is an offiste backup solution. There are a number of vendors in the market, with rates from about 15 euro per month, for a fully managed offsite backup.

    Batch file ?

write one that will copy files to the new drive when you double click the batch or you could use the windows scheduler to have it run a certain time. im sure theres a way to check if the file has a later Modified date and if it does ten copy it across to the backup drive.

is that something like you had in mind ?

There's a program called XXcopy, that's free to use for personal use. got loads of options for backinup, cloning, copying only new/changed files etc. You just have to write a batch file to use it.

    google has it

    Thanks for the replies.

I don't really want to scedule a batch file because some days I mightn't backup anything and often the external drive isn't attached.

I had a look at xxcopy. It seems like a good utility but I was hoping for something with a GUI. I'm not overly confident with switches/dos commands and was hoping for a drag and grop style interface. I could use xxcopy but it mightn't always be me doing the backup and I want something with shiny easy to use buttons.

I'm probably missing a simple tool out there. Well back to google.

    Thanks again

Thanks, that's pretty much what I was looking for. My googling skill s are letting me down :o

I downloaded a trial of Genie Backup Manager and it seems to do what I want.

I'll try Syncback once the trial runs out.

Wheels would like to publicly thank Bogger 77 for much-appreciated help with Medion SP2 problem.
I know this is wrong thread, but I'm sufficiently incompetent as to be unable to locate the one where you say thank you.
It is nice to know that there are still people out there who are dacent (sic).
My attempt to give him extra rep, or indeed any, having failed miserably, this is least I could do.
