If I was getting a laptop myself, I'd get a centrino, the prices have come down quite a bit recently as well.

Jes do an asus for €999

    Centrino 1.5Ghz
    256RAM
    40GB
    15"
    DVD writer
    64MB shared graphics
    2 year warranty
    Link

If you can stretch your budget a bit, I was thinking about one of the dell 8600 series myself. This is €1320

    Centrino 1.6Ghz (2MB cache version)
    512RAM
    60GB
    15.4" WXGA
    32MB NVidia 5200
    1 year warranty
    Link

Theres also another thread somewhere about a nice Acer laptop on elara for around the 1200 mark.

if you can hold out for a couple of weeks and up your budget a bit it may be an idea picking up one of lidls laptops. They're due in in a few weeks (were in europe and uk last week). General spec is amd64 3000+, ATI Mobility 9700 with 128mb ram, 512mb Siemens ram, 60gb Toshiba Hdd and Toshiba dvd+/- rewriter drive.

However if you want something light and with great battery life these may not be for you as they are heavy enough and the batterys would only average 2hours at best.

that last one seems to be pretty good, and for a very good price too. as long as you don't mind the changed keyboard and the (i could be wrong) shabby graphics card it would seem perfect.

I thnk the lidl one may be out of your price range as it will be either 1399 or 1499 (with case, wlan card, usbstick and some other junk)

I wouldn't touch a celeron unless i really couldn't afford bettter and even at that i'd go and get a toshiba here as they are around the same price.

    german keyboard info here: http://carbon.cudenver.edu/~tphillip/GermanKeyboardLayout.html

I have never bought one but might be worth looking at Dawn Computers in Goatstown. They carry a number of re-furbished Dell laptops for under the 1K mark. If you get a dell Lattitude let me know - I have a docking station for one here that you are welcome to (Dell Lattitude C/Port 11). Try Google for there website address.

    Good Luck.

    What up Powerhouse!

Personally, I don't really feel that u would be getting good value for money only spending 1k, if u wait a little while and save up a say another 500yoyos u 'd get something that might not be outdated in a number of weeks!

As of now we're slowly seeing the introduction of 64 bit processors, and hence are seeing many manufacturers drop their prices, on the now almost old school pentium 4s!

Anyway, thought u might be interested in this, last week i just bought a kick ass laptop.

    Here's the spec:

    Centrino 735 @ 1.7ghz,
    512 ddr ram @ 333mhz
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 128 mb graphics card,
    80gb hard drive
    and a dvd burner!

This laptop rocks! However it was e1500 from ALDI of all places, if u can still pick one up, u'll nab yourself a bargain! I certainly did! :)
