Dog food

    I have 2 pet cats (about a year old) and I realised i had no cat food the other night so i went to the only shop i knew would be open that time of night. The thing is they only had dog food, so i bought 2 tins of that, rather than have the cats starve, but i was wondering if it was ok to do that? I mean they ate it no problem, but i was thinking there must be some difference between cat and dog food so i was hoping someone would be able to tell me if giving them dog food would be a problem for them, or would do them any harm?

    Read the nutrition information on both and compare. I rather doubt it would harm them, my own opinion would be that the only real difference is the market they're aimed at, and the resulting packaging/presentation...

    The only difference ive noticed is that dog food is in larger chunks then cat food,
    afaik its still the same

    Actually, there is a huge difference between the two in terms of nutrition. The basic rule is that dogs can live on cat food, but cats CANNOT live on dog food. The protein requirements for the two species are different. Having said that, two days eating dog food will have done your cats no harm at all, unless they are generally unable to cope with a change in their food. It's not something to worry about, they would have suffered more from not eating, than eating dog food. It's just not someting you can do for the long term, as problems will develop.

    Exactly. Cats need richer food than dogs.
