    Er, no...
They were worse than Nirvana and U2 put together. Some sort of demon supergroup called "Nirvu2" who have an extreme lack of talent. :/

what bands you listen to then? :)

    nirvana are w@nk.
    u2 are alright.

I was a fan back in the day. Every so often I'll hear one of their songs somewhere and sing along, but I don't think I could sit down and listen to an Oasis album these days.

sunnshineeeeneh - that made me say "that's it, that's enough for me"

I used to like them but after Morning Glory I lost interest in them. I listened to Definitely Maybe the other week and it was better than I remembered but it didn't make me want to listen to it again.

I love Oasis but the last two albums were a little weak. 'Be here Now', despite the ravaging it got from tabloid scumbags is my fave Oasis album. Can't wait for the new one.

I went through the usual liking Oasis, then hating them phases. Now I don't really give them much thought. They definitly have some very good songs, but in general I wouldn't say they're all that good a band.

I actually quite like Masterplan. Funnily enough their B side album is better than their A side. Some really good songs on the Masterplan.

I'd forgotten about that cd. I remember some great songs on it but some well dodge ones too. But then, isn't that true of most b-side albums?

It was the band everyone else liked when I was in school. I tried to fit in, I really did, but I just couldn't bring myself to sit through a song without grimacing in disgust. And that's why it was the Best Summer Ever.

Liked the when I was younger, but can't stand them now.

Nirvana rock, less of the blasphemy

Yeah Oasis made only 2 decent albums, but 'Definitely maybe' will always rank in the top 10 of any 90's best albums, no question.

They are gladly not metal, but they are definitely a fantastic Rock band. Live forever, supersonic, cigs 'n' alco, champagne supernova, all around the world, acquiesce, morning glory are all great rock songs.

And yeah so Nirvana and Oasis weren't the most technically talented bands in the world, they still had superior songwriting ability and knack for writing a good tune over most other bands.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,756 ✭✭✭I am MAN

True its not all about technical ability, Just cause they dont play lightening fast solos with teeth doesnt mean they are crap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,419 ✭✭✭nadir

I really don't want to cause a spamfest, but erm. how can I put this.
Ok so they had a few catchy tunes, but erm, when you compare them to other bands / singer song writers, I mean I could just list 10000 bands I thought were better. Have a look on the Black/Death Metal page, I think every band mentioned there have/had a far superior song writing skill. And most of those are fairly obscure groups most people havnt heard of. Why does a band like Oasis get attention, when there are litterly a myriad of greater tallents available.
And I dont mean metal, just looka t other genres,

Hip Hop, everything from 'dela soul' to 'Mobb Deep' to 'A tribe called Quest'.
Reggae: from Bob to 'the Gladiators'
Techno: from 'Bogdan Razinsky' to Boris to Photec
Hippies: 'Grateful Dead' to The 'Incredible String Band' to 'jefferson airplane/starship'
    Rock: 'Zeppelin' to 'Thin Lizzy'
Ambient: Air to 'Explosions in the Sky' to Godspeed
Blues: 'Muddy Waters' to 'Otis Redding' to 'Gil Scott Heron'
    Soul: 'Curtis Mayfield' to Womack
    and so on..............

literally a myriad of musicians, There is alot of music out there man, and Oasis just seem bland, I mean totally talentless to any of those genres and all the musicians inbetween
Even just taking music of the last 10 years, they dont rate anywhere in the top 1000 id say.
Not trying to like take any higher moral ground guys, but I just dont get it.

like oasis alot.the later stuff isn't up to the standard of there earlier stuff, that's clear, but it was always going to be maintain such a high standard

These bands you speak about if they where so good we would have heard of them and thats that.

Eh... that's just ****e tbh. Are you actually saying that you've heard of every band that's good, and that it's impossible for a good band to exist without worldwide success?

Sorry... I didn't realise that popularity = talent.
I mean, look at the wealth of talent the likes of Westlife have!

And lads, get the idea out of your head that if someone's anyway competant with a guitar they're a crap songwriter.

Now, Oasis can definetly be considered a rock band. Perhaps indie maybe, but they still deserve their place here on this board. Surely if we were to say "You can't post about Oasis here" we'd nearly have to kick people for talking about The Pixies. Now I'm comparing the two bands, but the Pixies aren't exactly the most "ROCK" of rock bands out. Get my meaning? Mmmkay.

    Come on,
Oasis made the 90's. After Nirvana's demise we were all waiting for something new and exciting to happen,,,and the it did.
1994 was a great year for music, one of the best rock albums ever made, then it (arguably) got even better in 95 with mornin glory.
Their weakest album= standing on the shoulder of giants. If a new band had released that album it wud have been well received, (for god sake look at the popularity of the thrills and you'll see why) but because it was Oasis and people expected much better it was deemed a flop.

THE MOST EXCITING BAND OF THE 90'S- definetly

man, they were in part responsible for destroying the 90's.
The 90's had the worst popular music EVAR!
Man, in the 60's, 70's. 80's there was quite a bit of decent popular music. 90's totally sucked imo, smashing pumpkins are the only good thing i can think of off the top of my head.

morning glory was the first album i ever owned. i asked for it off santa when i was 8 r summit....not bad for an 8 year old girl me likes to think...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,709 ✭✭✭BolBill

Definately Maybe is by far their best album. Morning Glory is ****e, it doesn't hold up these days. As for the rest, better say nothing.
Blur are a better band just by the standard of music they have produced.
Nirvana were great, anyone who says otherwise really needs to get their head read.
U2, well they've just sold out to Microsoft !!!!!!!
