    hi everyone,

posted last week about going to thailand and the issue of monsoons. a couple of people replied (much appreciated) and told me that it's ok to travel to thailand during our summer.

can anyone else tell me about their experience of being there during june/july?

    many thanks!

    k

i was in thailand this time last year (dammit, thanks for reminding me, i'm getting depressed now, it was fooking great!;)) and there was some rain. quite a bit actually, but aside from the obvious (getting wet) it wasn't a problem. it would rain for an hour or two, and in 40c+ temps it was almost a godsend anyway, anyone who wasn't already soaked to the skin with sweat already just got wet like the rest of us.

it's a funny kind of heat though, really hot but bearable. not like heat here.

btw if you make it to kanchanburi (the bridge on the river kwai) stay for a day or so and take the train across the river. it goes all the way into the jungle (2 or 3 hours) and you can go to loads of different memorials and museums that a lot of people don't make it to. there's guides there who will drive you to the best places very cheaply, and there are some amazing (and humbling) sites. a lot of people don't bother with it and head straight for chang mai, but it was the highlight of my holiday. i'd also recommend taking the early train out which goes really early (something like 6.30am, but make sure you check beforehand) and there's hardly anyone on it except a few school children and locals. take a drink with you as it's a long trip, but trust me you really won't be bored, and for christ's sake take a camera!

also a good one is patpong night market in bangkok, lots of great stuff and it doesn't start until about 9pm so it's nice and cool to do your shopping.

Anyone know if a USIT student card is of any use in SEA i.e. are there reduction on entrance fees etc. for students as you get in European countries?

Hey im just back from there aswell, make sure you go to 'Patpong 1 & 2'. Its where most of the stalls are and when you walk up into the street, every bar has almost naked Thai girls feeling ya up and trying to drag you in for sex or a sex show, the least ya will have to pay though is 100Baht (2euro). Ive loads of info on all the deadly spots if ya want to know...forget the musems!
