Has anyone else listened to his solo stuff? Man not only is he technically amazing the man never hits the wrong note. His melodic sense is unreal. I can't get over it. He's music is beautiful. He create deadly soundscapes. An all around amazing musician! Some people may know him from his megadeath days...

What do the rest of ya think?

I got my hands on his instructional video "Melodic Control".
He is completely insane. Warning: lock away your guitar before watching this or you'll end up throwing it off the balcony!! :D

Yeah, I saw that too, and I totally agree: The man is a nut case. I suppose maybe that's why he's so damn good.

Where would "Dragons kiss" stand in relation to - say - Joe Satrini's "Surfing with the alien" ?

Gentlemen, if you want to hear Marty Friedman, and I mean really want to hear him let rip, then the only thing to do is hunt down the two Cacophony albums - 'Speed Metal Symphony' and 'Go Off' featuring Marty and the even more talented Jason Becker. It's truly insanely fast guitar playing.

IIRC they had a month to record the second album and only allowed the singer in to record the vocals on the last day :D That's how you record guitars ;)

Sadly, yes. He as ALS (better known as Lou Gehrig disease). He developed it during the recording of A Little Ain't Enough for Dave Lee Roth. He was given a couple of years to live but he lives to this day. He did 20 Questions for Metal Sludge last year. Read it here, it's moving stuff.

he was pretty good, but since he went to do some J-pop in japan, he's lost most of his respect (well mine anyway). He was supposed to have played the arabic solo in holy wars really sloppily live though.

I saw Marty on the Rust In Peace and Countdown To Extinction tours and, let me assure you, he played his parts spot on.
