Yes it's pretty silly, and as usual with a Paul Verhoeven film its style over substance. Plenty of action though, and builds up to a decent finale for a change.

Special effects are pretty state of the art as well - all in all v enjoyable.

    hmmm, Decent finale?

    Ok, my opinion.
Special effects, stunning. The ape bit was amazing to see.

Pro's: the special effects, a fairly strong cast - not much overacting involved , slipped from action to horror/suspence and back again fairly seamlessly. Yep, was directed and put together very well. Some funny/jumpy/tense new ideas.

Cons: the finale. Sorry CT, but I thought it was too dragged out, contrived and "traditional" - nothing new. THe film seemed to jump from point to point. It would move, grind to a stop so you could examine it, and move again.. skimming over certain things.. like Bacons' mental decline, there wasn't really a middle ground.
Film setting, it would have been much better in a larger area <you know what I mean, I just don't want to spoil it>, too many cliches. In a way, there was just too much. It felt like the film should have been longer.

PS. I really liked the intro-credits. For some reason. sort of built up the suspense.

Overall: Go, see, be amazed. Marvel at special effects and have fun. Don't expect to walk away thinking you've seen the year's best film. Apart form the effects, it's trying to get up to too much, and in the end not really managing to achieve anything. Again, apart from the effects, you won't remember much about this one after a week or two.

im sorry? Was i watching the same film? Fair enough its SAci-Fi but IMO if u've been burned alive you should die....you should not still be able to take a blow to the back of the head with a crowbar and then be able to climb up a lift shaft after surviving an explosion...Also..why didnt they just lock him in his room? The whole thing was like
Oh my god! he's a psycho!!......but we'll still let him wander around the lab until we decide what to do with him..

ahhh but i suppose it was enjoyable enough biggrin.gif

    B0llocks.

The finale was TERRIBLE. Drawn out and fu<king stupid. While they had some nice ways of detecting them, for a bunch of groundbreaking scientists, they were as thick as pigsh1t when it comes down to it.

    Great effects though.

That did get mentioned in the film and the Kevin Bacon character pointed out that he was still head of the experiment so was still giving the orders smile.gif

Decent, fun, schlocky film. I agree with the fact that they could have been more ambitious in the end, then it just being a drawn out bad guy chasing good guys through tunnels in a high tech environment. Missed oppertunity there. But, all in all, a bit of a laugh. Kevin Bacon was very effective though, eventhough he was invisible for most of it, and the fact that we just f ucking had to see his bloody knob...ugh..

Im going to the bear fights tomorrow, want to come with ??
