    Sales must be slow :D

Quote from Sky email "Dear Retailer

Removal of Installation Charge on Sky Packages from Family Pack Upwards.

    >From 1st October 2004 we will be removing the installation fee on packages
from the family pack upwards. This new initiative will have a major
positive impact on your business in 2 key areas.

Firstly this new offer will drive volume from customers who wish to
subscribe to our lower tier packages but who in the past have not been
    eligible for discounted installation offers.

Secondly, we will be changing our billing procedures to reflect the fact
that you will not be receiving any money from the customer for the
installation. This is currently set at €75 for Sky World customers and €100
for all other customers. This means that you will not be required to make a
“claim” to us for the shortfall you receive from the customer when we run an
offer. It also means that there will be no need to enter a promotional code
on the customer contract for this pricing charge."

    snip

"Finally please note that “No Install” does not apply to the bottom 5
packages (Popular Mix, Knowledge, Kids/Music, Asian Mix and Value Packs).
Customers taking these packages will be required to pay €75 for standard
    installation. "

Thanks god they have finally simplified arrangements with retailers, this will save a lot of paperwork

    Tony

    Hi Tony,
thats good news. Do you have any information on whether SKY+ is going to come down in price for existing subscribers? I thought it would plummet with the arrival of the 160 box

160 euro sky+ box?? I was quoted 300 euro for a sky+ box by a sattelite shop here in Drogheda yesterday!

Tony would this apply to people living in apartments? We have a dish on the roof that will feed each apartment. Also - do you refuse to install sky in properties without a phoneline?

"160 box" as in "Sky plus box with 160GB hard drive"

    Tony, just one further question...

The current Sky+ install offer of €159 on the Sky Website, can this be ordered yet through independent installers?

Not so far as they have not made this available to retailers

, our view is that we are very reluctant to take part in any refund sheme run by sky outside the normal box subsidy as payment is not guaranteed , they have used the flimiest of excuses to refuse payment in the past so we have learned the hard way.

The phone line is a sky issue not ours, its not my call to make.

I know it's not your call mate, I was just wonder why Sky are so insistant upon subscribers having a phone line. Surely this is discrimination? I have no phone line and have no desire to buy a phoneline just so I can get Sky installed :-( Do Sky+ boxes need to dial up every few days to update their listings?

AFAIK its partially to do with you buying services over the phone, pay per view, paying to tele-vote with red button, pay per view movies.

I really dont see how this is discrimination its simply a condition of the offer. I persoanlly do not agree with it but I'm not spending millions subsidising equipmet. why not just rent a phoneline for 12 months and dont make any calls.?

I see ads every week in the Galway papers for €75 installation and special packages for 'no phone lines'.

My bro in Dublin wants to get a digibox without a phone line. He already has a dish installed at the house. Don't think he'd be willing to go down the Ebay route. Any installers in Killiney that will do the job w/o a phone line??

I think you may see a lot more guys willing to this for 75 now that sky are paying for the install, especiially guys working for retailers with either big sales or poor tracking systems for sky payments. Sky seem to have dropped the retailer clawback scheme as I've not seen a compliance statement for many months.
