Which 2.1 speakers?

My new room for college this year isn't really suitable for a full 5.1 set up so i'm looking at 2.1 speakers.

I don't want to spend too much as I eventually want to get a savage 5.1 set up going so these are just a stop gap solution and i need a set quick.

I was thinking something from the creative inspire range. Cheap and cheerful i thought but what are your opinions?

Oh and is it possible to to just use 2 of the speakers in a 5.1 kit as a 2.1?

Would you spend €140?, i have the awesome Creative I-trigue L3450 2.1 speakers. They look amazing and sound amazing!

    I only buy the best!

Have you got a sound system? I just hook my pc up to that and use the excellent speakers off it until I get around to getting a good 5.1 setup.

I bought the Creative Inspire T2900 2.1 Speakers, and I'm very happy with them. You can see them in the Creative online shop. The online price is €70 (inc. shipping) but I picked them up for about €60 in a store.

    Hope this helps :)

here are some suggestions, I have been looking for 2.1 speakers myself 2 month ago so I'm pretty informed

    Logitech Z-2200
    16383.jpg

nice sound! and quite a cheap price! - no tweeter! = no highs! this speakers are good if you like rap and techno music, boomy subwoofer

    Creative Megaworks 250THX

sounds a little better than Z-2200 but comes at a price! has a tweeter, more controlled subwoofer!

Klipsch Promedia 2.1(I own these :D)
    klipsch21.jpg

blows those 2 speakers and any other 2.1 speakers in the world away! don't believe me? please google for klipsch promedia 2.1 review! they have 5/5 stars in 99% of the reviews! of course one downside! they are available only in 110v so you will need a transformer - very controlled subwoofer! unbelievably clear sound! Awesome for rock!

    Altec Lansing MX5021

    http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=6453,

IMO a little better(more clear) sattelites than Klipsch Promedia, but weaker less controlled subwoofer! = you won't enjoy movies as much, but if classical music, guitars and things like that is your stuff, these are for you!

    here are the reviews
Altec Lansing Mx5021, reviewed and compared to Klipsch Promedia

Z-2200 being reviewed and compared to Klipsch and Altecs!

here's a thing, if you are not an audiophile! and don't have trained ears! and have never listened to any of the above speakers, I would suggest you getting Logitech Z-2200s, you will be more than happy with them trust me!

you have to remember, when I say a boomy subwoofer or something like that, that means compared to the other 3 speakers, these 4 speakers are the leading multimedia 2.1 speakers in the world!

I bought these and i'm very impressed so far. They're cheap but well worth it, getting great sound in far-cry and doom plus they're eax compatabile.

They would work as 2.1 but ya wouldn't have same benifits of using them as 5.1

Hmm i just want to be sure about whether it's possible to just use 2 of the 5 speakers in a 5.1 kit as a 2.1.

Then it's just a matter of deciding whether to just get a cheaper 2.1 set that i can afford now or put it off for another while and get a sweet 5.1 set up.

    Decisions decisions........

Thanks for all your reply's. Naturally i'd love to get the €140 speakers but i couldn't justify spending that much on a set of 2.1's. But if it was 5.1 i'd spend €200-250 or there abouts and get something really savage. I do likes my music. I'm prog rock and jazzy fusion stuff but i'm leaning towards gaming and movies where the speakers are concerned.

Bloodbath, I don't have a proper sound system, at least nothing i can connect the pc to. The idea was that the pc was going to be the sound system itself. Its good advice though. I know lots of people that do that and it does sound great.
