Hi all though this would be the best place,

im 24 and have been wearing glasses for about 5 yrs now, tried contacts briefly ages ago but wasnt bothered with the hassle. I had to buy new glasses last week so i said i might aswell try contacts again.

Did the fitting last night and got a 5 pack trial of dailys, had em in for an hour and a half last night and they just arent comfortable at all, it feels as if they are really really dry in my eyes and if i close my eyes for say 3 seconds and reopen them the lens move and then recentre, is this normal?

Do i just need to work up my wearing time? are there drops i can get?

    any help much appreciated

They shouldn't fell that dry so soon, go back to the opticians and tell the what's happening, they'll probably give you a different brand to try as different lens suit fit and suit people differently.

There are drops you can use and they do help, sounds like your eyes are very dry though.

If you don't like the hassle give the ones you leave in for a month without taking them out a shot - they also are less drying on the eyes.

I was like you, couldn't stand taking them in and out and never bothered with Contacts now I don't even have glasses in my prescription.

Putting them in and taking them out just takes a bit of practice. After 20 or so pairs it'll seem easy.

As for the dry eyes it may be that your eyes are wuite sensitive. I use dailies which apparently are stored in a very neutral solution and they don't cause any problems. Other types of dailies caused no end of irritation.

Building up the time using them would be a good idea too but the best thing to do is try and forget about them. I find if I think about them then I feel they are uncomfortable. The reality is that there is probably no difference in how they feel when I think about them and when I don't and obviously when you're not thinking about them then there's no problem. (I hope that makes some sense)

I find Spec Savers own brand very dry on my eyes. I've heard that J&J's brand is better.....

I've been wearing contact lenses for about 17 years now. I use Focus Night & Day lenses. They're extended wear, so you pop them in your eyes for a month and forget about them. You can even sleep in them and your eyes feel fine in the morning. The lens material lets in as much Oxygen as if you weren't wearing lenses and they are very comfortable. Daily lenses are crap and I wouldn't touch them. They just aren't up to the same quality as ones designed to be worn for longer periods.

Johnson & Johnsons are meant to be brill - Specsavers does them. Only thing is they're bloody expensive. You'd want to be fairly well off to use them a lot.

Yes, you would want to be well off to buy lenses in ireland - So dont!
Check out the boards thread on buying online - use "visiondirect" as a search word - should bring it up.

...one of the best threads on boards.

Build up the time that you are wearing the lenses - you could also try the ones with a higher water content and use the sensitive eye drops for contact users. I used to find pubs really bad until the smoking ban and computer screens really dry your eyes out also.

Omg I have the EXACT same problem. Tried them ages ago, my eyes were just too dry. I had to apply drops every two minutes. I'd love to be able to use contacts though. I'll have to give them another go. Which is best for really dry eyes, soft or hard lenses? Leave in for a month or daily lenses?

I use Get Lenses and find them great - I've been going there for years and sometimes they don't charge me for eye tests :)

Go back to your potician and ask to try a different brand - J&J made my eyes very dry but Focus were fine, and I know some people who had the opposite experience. Just keep trying and you'll find something!
