News just in at the excellent www.eurogamer.net. HL2 will be in shops on 26th November. The Yanks get it 3 days earlier. Nothing about about the downloadable version. However this info is from VU games and not Valve.

At the moment, it's Vivendi dragging their feet on annoucing it gold. Valve are pushing them to release it by releasing CS : S next week to anyone who has bought HL-2 on Steam. I may be cancelling my preorder and getting the steam one tbh. Maybe the Gold package

That date seems accurate. Play.com have updated their release date on it to the 26th of November. I'd expect an announcement from VU by early next week.
