Ok never posted on this forum before, but I have to say after a quick skim I'm mightily impressed with the level of peoples knowledge.. This question will hardly be worth ye'r time.

The hard-drive in my dell dimension's gone kaputt. It's not recognised, there is a very strange noise coming from it and a slight burning smell.. I rang the dell tech-support and yer-man agreed. It's only a couple weeks outta warranty which is a bit of a kick in the teeth so I was given the "out of warranty call" ph no (bit too pricey) and the sales ph no if I wanted to install one myself..
"120GB IDE (7,200rpm) Hard Drive for Dimension 2 4 0 0 MMT / 2350 MMT / 4550 MT / 4600 MMT / 8250 MT / 8300 MT" Is what I have and to replace it would cost about €220. Had a look at your cheap components sticky and it really got my hopes up. Thing is I really don't have a clue what to look for, whether it'd be compatible etc.
Say for example would this fit? If not what would? What do I need to look for?
I'm afraid it won't be recognised if it's not a dell one..

    Cheers

Any IDE drive will work fine, and buying from komplett will be a lot cheaper than Dell. Dell don't manfacture HDs and the one you linked to will work fine

Nice choice, western digital are the best performing hd's and are pretty reliable too.
