Goddamn MTV!

Anyone else really hate MTV? Aside from the fact that they rarely even play music videos, all over their little "reality" shows just make me angry. Crap like "i want a famous face" where they show womens breasts being chopped open( the breast augmentation parts), but they blur out the nipples .Hmmmm so its ok to see a woman being cut open, but it would be terrible and offensive if we were to see her nipples! Good god no! Nipples ! Society will collapse!
Oh yeah "cribs" and "dismissed" and "punkd", theyre whats wrong with the world. Theres just one word for them, brainless.

I hate the way the movie companys pay them loads of ca$h to show endless documentaries about some sh*te movie thats not even worth going to see. They are always making desperate attempts at making sure going to the movies is still "cool".

What have movies got to do with MTV? **** knows, i wouldn't mind seeing a video or two once in a while, either. All they ever show are hip hop videos now. Even THATS at 6am.

I hate the way it never ever plays music, you'd be lucky to hear a song after one of the lame shows. What i do is watch TMF after 7 and they play non-stop music which is cool! You have to pay to get good music channels by getting sky digital.

When I moved to Limerick first I missed MTV, used to watch it a lot in college, and Chorus don't carry MTV on their cable service. Now I'm glad it's gone. I have seen it ocasionally since then and it's only getting worse, for all the reasons stated above. Punkd, uh what rubbish. Jessica Simpson, braindead. And then all the ringtone ads non-stop :mad: Better off without it.
Much better to watch VH1's top 100 worst videos weekend or something like that instead. Milli Vanilli, Flock of Seagulls, Erasure, all chringeworthy stuff but unmissable at the same time

What really annoys me is that the it's the only television station available! .... hold on one second ... all those other buttons on the remote .... surely they couldn't be other channels .... wait a minute .... I don't actually have to watch MTV?!?!

It's terrible television programming

minimal music, drastic shows like roomraiders, trl, dismissed, pimp my ride etc..

and ads, ads and more ads!

bring back 120 mintutes and all those other good music shows

it's just catering for teeny boppers

How the hell do they expect people to get exposed to new music without minority group shows like Headbanger's ball and pretty much anything that was on MTV Europe before they started showing TRL and basically rebranding MTV USA with European presenters.

Sure, you could just not watch it, but I want a music channel dammit! :mad:

Anyway, yeah, they should bring back alien nation, the Ray Cokes show, basically anything they had before the abomination that is MTV UK. I think theres some tapes of MTVEurope hanging about the house here somewhere.

Since Beavis and Butthead finished Mtv has rapidly turned sh*t. I remember reading a review with Mike Judge a while back. He said that Mtv butchered Beavis and Butthead with a ridiculously unnecessary amount of edits. They even removed the word fire from every episode that mentioned it.

That's not the point.
Some people may want to watch music videos, but only have MTV. Which is supposed to be music television, but music videos are few and far between on the channel.

While their shows are entertaining enough, they shouldn't be on MTV. To make matters worse, they are played ad nauseum. Where the hell is the music?

Back in the day, pop, rock, rap, r'n'b, and dance were all were represented in some shape or form on MTV (remember The Late Lick, Dancefloor Chart etc.). And it was good, I used to watch Brand:New when I could. Yet since Jackass and The Osbournes got all the more popular, music got shoved out and categorised under their own channels on the digital television. Right now, you'd be lucky (or unluckly, depending on who you are) to see a hit video on MTV. Too many double episodes of Cribs, Dismissed, Pimp My Ride etc.

More like Pop Culture TV tbh.

The US version has been worse for much longer, even more crappy programming and advertising. However, when it does get round to showing videos at a rare time of the day, you'd get a better selection than the Irish (?) MTV.

MTV has been dreadful ever since it became MTV UK.

There was an ad I think it was for thier summer line up and the slogan was 'MTV LESS MUSIC MORE PROGRAMMES'................ And when they do play music it usually around 3 O clock in the morning.

MTV Europe was the best and while they played music when people where watchin they also had some decent non Princess/jock/meathead dating programmes.

Like all the Cartoons, The Head, Beavis and Butthead etc.
Ray Cokes(remember him?) and all the presenters who could barely speak speak a word of English where better than the Dave Berry twat!!!

Anyone else remember when Zig and Zag had a show on MTV?

ah ..... but it is the point ..... MTV targets a certain audience with their programming, an audience that enjoys all those reality shows, an audience that wants to buy ringtones from a dancing hippo, an audience that doesn't seem to include most of the people on this thread ....

and if you're not part of this target audience, then why would you expect to enjoy anything on mtv?

If people want to see music videos they will have to dig out some television listings and find out when mtv show them (I'm assuming that's late at night into the morning at this stage)

otherwise be prepared to see more of carmen electra and the ex chilli planning their marriage, more of ozzy and co. effing about, and more of the newlyweds being morons.

I'm perfectly happy to change the channels during the ad break for viva la bam (that's the two ad breaks during viva la bam mind)

Hey I love MTV. Especially Pimp My Ride and MTV Cribs, oh and Punk'd. I love Ashton Kutcher! The only thing i dont really like about MTV is the way they never play that much music!! They only play a few seconds of it on TRL. How bad is that??

There are at least 30 music channels on Sky, And at least 20 of them play wall to wall videos of varied musical tastes. If you don't have a Sky box, get one. Your hatred of MTV is strange. If you said you hated the shopping channels then maybe you would have some sort of a point. But MTV ....:rolleyes:

But of those 30 odd channels, they all seem to stick to a similar playlist consisting of 25 or so songs.

I concur. That man was the only reason I watched MTV in my preteens, and subsequently got hooked on good music in the intervals between him and Beavis & Butthead.

I just wish they'd stop showing those god awful phone ad's. And why do they have to dedicate an entire week to a show that only has about 6 episode's. I don't know how my roomate can stand watching Pimp My Ride so many times in one night, kinda makes me want to shoot him.
I think MTV have lost the defination of Music Televison, since they don't even seem to be able to play a full video anymore. And they've really taken this reality tv thing a bit to far, it's the only thing that they seem to air now.

The last good thing MTV did was Jackass. Then they played it to death. Then they had a " Goodbye Jackass week", where they showed the series "one last time". Then they stopped playing Jackass for a week or two, then they started showing it again.

Yup. I'd actually make a point of watching his show whereas now I make a point of ensuring I don't watch anything on that channel. Him and Toby Amies were great presenters.
