 Im attempting to upgrade a Gateway GP-6 from win 98 to windows 2000 pro. Do I need a special Gateway CD to do this because the normal windows 2k pro doesn't seem to go on. Where do I get this cd??

DO you get errors, or messages or what?

Sorry, Yes I get an error. once I have installed the OS and begin bootup. The computer freezes with an error **STOP:0x000007B incaccessible_boot_device** I have checked that the hard disk is on the proper settings and all seems fine. Maybe I should have a CD for drivers specifically for the Gateway GP-6.

    Interesting.

I got the exact same error reinstalling XP Pro recently. Turns out the problem was that I wasn't using an 80-Conductor IDE Cable to connect my hard disks to the IDE controller. The BIOS detected fine, the boot block executed (XP Loading screen ran), but the quickly terminated with the same error.
I put in the correct IDE cable, and it worked fine. Perhaps Windows 200o/XP is reading from the BIOS to expect an 80-Conductor , or perhaps it's not compatible with ATA-33 .

    Maybe someone here will know....

that might be it. I replaced the IDE Cable before installing w2k. I presumed that the cable was the same. Thanks for your help
