cd-rw problem

I haven't been able to burn cds on my laptop since i installed XP pro (it came with xp home). the cd-rw/dvd-reader is a sony CRX830e.. The funny thing is, when I open nero infotool, it recognises everything perfectly; says the cd drive is able to burn cds,cd-rws.. However when I open Nero and try to burn, the only device available is the image recorder.

When I try to burn using Feurio!, it simply says I don't have a blank cd inserted (when I do, ofc)..

    What should I do?

Current highest 5.5 version is 5.5.10.56

May as well start by at least updating to that (at least you can do that for free).

There's a service in windows xp for cd burning that can cause problems with other software, I can't remember exactly what it's caused but it should be easy enough to find in the list and disable it.
