Would it be worth it building your own guitar... you see loads of stuff on ebay like, necks and bodies etc, would it be hard to build it all bit by bit.. how hard would it be to wire it all up? and what would be the end product if i were to build a strat.. it might cost less than a new guitar.. plus it would be a nice project(i think).. what do ya'll reckon?

It'd be interesting, but depends entirely on how much you want to spend. You could get a complete usa strat for about €750 realistically. You could pay that alone for a Warmoth body and neck. If you're going to make a guitar though, I'd say you should make something that's different from the norm.

indeed, my main reason for wanting to do this is because i dont have the money to buy a new strat... whereas with this i can buy bit by bit, when i have the money to do so... its definitely very appealing

Just be careful, especially when you buy a neck, that you get a good one. Whatever else, your neck ahs to be sound, it's the most important part of the instrument. I would suggest even getting a Warmoth neck new.

Also have a look at (here I go again) Chris Guitars, he has a load of necks and bodies available on that page and he can be trusted.

i'm gonna have to read up on this... what would be the difference between warmoth neck and standard strat neck?? is there anythin i should stay clear of when buying parts?

Warmoth necks are reinforced, but they're made to regular strat dimensions. Just make sure the neck and body you buy are compatible.

TBH, get a Carvin 24 fret neck through neck for about ?200, some alder and a router and make your own guitar from scratch pretty much. Make sure you put EMG's in it too!

I think they're normally made from ash.

would anyone have any decent links to a site that woud go through this kinda stuff... ie, where to start etc?

tbh I'm with feylya on this, if I was building my own guitar, I'd cut the body myself. Although I'd have to design a nice looking body first, that is.
