MILWAUKEE - An 11-year-old boy was charged Wednesday with raping a 76-year-old neighborhood woman in her home as three of his friends stood watch.

Police said that for a week before the attack, the boys had been "terrorizing" the woman in her house, repeatedly breaking in and taking cash and other items.

The woman, who lived alone, told police she was taking a sponge bath in the kitchen Friday when the 11-year-old walked in, demanded money and then ordered her to take off her clothes and go into the bedroom, according to court papers.

The boy's brother, a 13-year-old who was among the three other boys also charged, said he heard the woman say: "I'm just an old, half-crippled lady, I'm not going."

The woman said the 11-year-old put on a condom and tried to rape her, followed by a second boy.

The 11-year-old was charged in juvenile court with sexual assault and being a party to burglary and criminal trespassing. The other boys — ages 11, 12 and 13 — were charged with being a party to burglary and criminal trespassing.

In court Wednesday, the 11-year-old facing the less serious charges called out, "Hi, Mom" after spotting his adoptive mother.

"I'm very hurt because my son was raised as a good boy," she said outside court. She complained that police abused the boys to obtain confessions.

he's eleven.. for **** sake people. it's sick, but he's only a child. he should be punished, severely but he should still have the chance of rehabilitation later on in life. Perhaps something to look at would be why his parents seem to have so little control over him that he's going out terrorizing old ladies for weeks on end?

Most kids get erections way before 11 I thought. (I know this from remembering being young, not from looking at children's privates, in case anybody would have made smart remarks to that effect.

What do I say?

Do we know this was his first offence? I mean take the repeated break-ins and attacks as a single offence. To the old lady its probably only one offence. One never ending nightmare. It think we all suspect that most thugs get away with more offences than they are ever caught for. So there is possibly a behavioural pattern here. I would like to believe this is a single abherration in his otherwise normal childhood, but a gang of young kids doing what they did is not even normal criminal activity. It's sub-human.

If I lived near there I would feel my family was at risk if he and his gang were free to roam the streets. Perhaps you would like to take him in with your family and raise and cherish him in a loving environment? It would be nice to think that he appreciate your efforts.

I know he's only 11, but he has to be taken out of normal human society until he has earned the right to readmission. That can be through a process of education and rehabilitation or wait until he dies and then he can be buried with the rest of us non-sociopaths. Either way is fine with me.

he needs help, perhaps the main reason he has been reoffending is that he never got any treatment? so perhaps with some treatment, he will once again become a nice little gear in this giant clockwork mess we call society.

I am not trained in rehabilitation or counselling, so that really wouldn't do much good would it. Likely all that would happen is if the child has some predisposition towards violent crime, then he would continue to reoffend in carlow. I'm not entirely sure how you think this would help.

it is official - the world has passed the stage of just being f**ked up - it is now spralled naked & tanning in the depths of depravity & ppl are just accepting it - this is just appalling... too much sex on television folks & far too much sexualising of life.....& it's being force fed to our kids at every opportunity i.e. BoI ads for house - what the heck has two ppl trying to get it on have to do with buying a gaff??? haven't they ever heard of a hotel or a dark alley

Well said - I agree with you totally. I have to monitor very carefully what my daughter watches on the tv. Sex is everywhere - we were in the local shop last night and she saw the Sunday Sport which was with the regular papers and the pics on the front were totally inappropriate for kids to be looking at. Really all a parent can do is keep a close eye on their kids and educate them about sex properly. Unfortunately kids are losing their innocence way too young and its getting younger. As for the 11 year old boy who tried to rape the old woman. At this age he would know he was doing wrong and should pay the price but shouldn't be treated as severly as an adult. I'd say he is mentally ill or has suffered some sort of abuse himself but sure I'm only guessing and we can only imagine what went on in his head. The poor old lady must be in total shock.

my mother told me a story last night about my 15 year old cousin..

he went to his mother and father the day before yesterday and said to them both "I don't want to alarm you, but I think I've gotten my girlfriend pregnant". Apparently they had been using condoms, but afaik it burst once (i can only assume he hasn't been shown how to put one on.. the mother offered to demonstrate (she forgot to add.. on a piece of fruit...) and he.... i'm told he turned a delightful shade of red and refused.. it was only hours later she realised that she did not say what she had intended to say..).

The two of them didn't know about the morning after pill either, add to this their assumed inability to work the common condom and we finally can see why sex education is the danger so many right minded people believe it to be, children do *not* need to know about sex!

Still, I will admit to be proud of the little bugger for handling himself and the situation so responsibly

I'd say your poor cousin was mortified thinking his Mam was going to give him a personal demonstration! Hope all turned out ok in the end. Things are changing though and my daughter's class got their sex education last year (5th class). They were given quite a lot of information but overall I'd say it was very well done in her school. I had already given her "the talk" myself so she wasn't too freaked out. I think the reason why parents put off the "birds & the bees talk" is that they hate the fact their little babies are growing up but the way I see it is I'd rather my daughter hear the facts from me rather then some kid in the playground. Luckily so far she's very comfortable asking me questions as I try and not make sex to be a big dirty taboo subject. It is hard though as a parent trying to figure out if its too much/too little info.
