I recently got a replacement motherboard and a new hard drive. When I installed windows and tried to activate it, I was informed that I had exceeded activations for my product key. I have service pack 2 installed so I can’t bypass the activation. This is a legitimate copy of XP, so how can I activate it now?

Simple - call Microsoft. The number to call should be displayed onscreen when it tells you that you need to reactivate the product, or it should give you the option to do this online.

Choose the activate using the telephone option.
They shouldn't have any problems giving you the new code.
