I have a Canon Ixus 2s and I have a few movies which look far better on the cameras LCD screen. When I download them and play them in windows media player much of the colour is lost and jsut appears as a black blur. I can I edit them with some software? Also can I compress them more as they come out as huge files even though they are only a few seconds long (I dont want to loose resolution)

I own a Canon G3 camera and had some odd problems working with the avi files recorded on it. The avi’s appear to be captured via a canon proprietary codec, windows media player played them blurred/black and Premier refused to import them.
When all else failed I tried Virtualdub, imported the file and re-encoded as a Microsoft avi. This time the avi played fine in windows media player and was able to import to Premier.

Also you mentioned a problem with avi size. In virtual dub you can re-encode the clip using DIVX codec instead or whatever other codec you would like to.

Virtual Dub is free and can be found at http://www.virtualdub.org

Guides on how to use the application can be found at http://www.videohelp.com
The site also has a great forum on all things video related.
