    Hi Mear,

Best of luck tonight with your grading. You'll be fine, think positive.
Incidentially, how does the colour grading go in JuiJitsu?

My next grading is coming up end of Oct, think its the week before I head to Holland for the EU Taekwondo Champs. I haven't decided if I'll go for it (Green Tip), as I'm hoping to put my full concentration on the EU championship.

Anyway, again, best of luck tonight.

    CHeers Memph

Anyway I passed! F**king gettin sore now though. Aul adreneline had worn off, went to pub for couple of guinness with the others to celebrate, that'll be wearing off soon. man its gonna hurt in morning i just know it :)

After i'd finished grading and got changed, i stood up and kinda just went "Ow, yeh that leg is sore.. oh yep adreneline worn off. muscle very sore" heh.

Anyway its goes: White, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown, black. Goes on to 2nd dan then etc. And obviously it takes longer to get from orange to green than white to yellow etc..

    Congrats Mear.

So your at it awhile then. Colour grading in TKD goes slightly different: - white, yellow tip, yellow, green tip, green, blue tip, blue, red tip, red, black tip, black, then 2nd dan etc. I'm only at it about 7-8 months.

The muscle pain sounds familiar. My back and the musles in the back of my legd are f*cked from all the stretching I did at training last saturday. You see training is getting fair more intense now that the EU championship is approaching.

    Hheh familiar pain ;))

Yeh at it for a year now, will be ages til my next grading, 6-7 months min.
But im going to Spain in Janruary for a few months(collage) so will be a long time before i grade again.
Hopefully be going away with 2 mates from collage, one whos very focused on his body building, bit of kick boxing too, and another who has 7 years of Muay Thai under his belt ;))

So needless to say, we shall be all training together, showing different weakness/strengths and hopefully I'll come back better than ever.

Unless of course beer and women get in the way..sigh

Congratulations rainbow. I'm hoping to grade for my red tag in either December or February

Good luck! Funnily enough I thought my red tag grading was a lot worse than my red belt grading...

Congrats to all on their achievements.

ffs, i thought last week was bad, I put in well over 4 hours of TKD training over the weekend. Its Tuesday, and I can still hardly walk. What do I need to do to get the musles to loosen up again? I'm all cramped up, my back aches, my legs are stiff, and my arms even ache.

I did the usual hour on Sat, then went to training in Glanmire, Cork for a 2 hour, really intensive training class, followed my a fundraising fight day back home all on Sunday. Needless to say I was so tired I lost my first fight, and the second fight was against the current EU champion, and a 3rd dan black belt (I'm only a f*cking yellow belt).... who obviously kicked my ass. Got a few good tips though.

Just try and stretch out as much as possible. Maybe going for a swim would help to loosen out the muscles too.

    memphis,

First and foremost, drink plenty of water, that's the most important thing.

You overtrained on the weekend, so you are fatigued. Then you fought against highergrades which I'm guessing got your adrenaline going. So your tense body was stuck with extra lactic acid, which is why you feel so sore now.

Chill out, relax, take a few days off, eat right, and you'll be fine!

Thanks Colm for the pointers. I was certainly fatigue. Yeah, fight against higher grade was a bit of an adrenaline rush to the head ok, but I did learn some important lessons. Colm I'm giving you a mark on your reputation card for this post!

    Thanks again!!!

Sparring higher grades is a great learning experience. Even when you get your ass kicked.

yea i find it a great help when i sparr wit my trainer, he really shows you where your open and how little time there is to think and although its not frequent, it is nice when u land a sweet point on him...!

Very infrequent I'm sure? Yeah, it a big learning curve ok. I certainly got a few good digs from the chap too, made me realise that I was far too open. I need to concentrate on keeping up my guard, and most important not to try block kicks with my arm, I'm a nasty bruising on each arm from all the blocks, and believe me this guy kicks hard!

Anyway, i'm back to training again tomorrow after relaxing and sitting about most of the week, letting my body recover, having said that I did have a jog on the beach today (outside Dungarvan), wouldn't exactly call it training though.

Apparently I will be grading before Christmas in both Ju Jitsu and Shokotan Karate.
I shall be a white belt in Karate (although that might change cos someone mentioned a double grading the other day---depends how quick I get back to it.)
And in Ju Jitsu I shall be a yellow belt maybe

nice one petals. Where u do ur Jiu Jitsu ?? - No maybe, you will :))

Hint: Learn a few moves from the higher syllabus's (Moves ppl wil be doing for an orange belt grading, i can give examples if u want me to..) Will impress ur Sensei.

And when ur doing Street techniques(Knife attacks etc) try relax and not freeze, just go with the flow, and heres the BIG always..

ALWAYS finish when they are on the ground! - Be it a strike, an armlock (Hanging wristlock is good) ..

I do ju jitsu in college in Maynooth.

I think they showed me a few moves from orange belt already.

Thanks for the tips there though. :D

(oh and I say maybe because depending on how nervous I get before these gradings they may have to find me to get me to go  )

were at it three nights a week at the moment, its tough goin but we didnt train over the summer so were making up for lost time.the kicks are a sore point wit me too, i try and score points mostly with punch combos, use kicks mainly for stopping my opponent getting too close or driving them back into a defending position where i know there less likely to throw a kick so i can get close with my punches.

Interesting point that, must keep that in mind next time I'm sparring.
    Cheers.
