    Hi

PC is Packard Bell I Connect

Have all the latest Windows updates including SP2

Using latest version of Nero and keep getting Buffer Underrun. Ran Disc deframentation no joy. Also have pragram called enditall to kill all programs in the background again no joy. Tried writing at 8x1200 / 4x600 and then the slowest speed but again no joy.
Tried the same thing with Real Player 10 and also got Buffer underrun
Also checked their website for updates etc but no joy ?

I am at my wits end.....

Would it be better to get a seperate CD/DVD writer as the one I have seems to have ran out of steam...... Also there is no buffer underrun protection on the cd writer

    Anyone shed any light ???

    Cheers

Go into Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager

Expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS menu and select properties on the Primary and Secondary IDE channels.

Check the Advanced tab and see if the Current Transfer Mode on any of the devices is PIO.

If it is, change it to DMA if available.

Try using an older nero version, that might help. Also, could it be just a batch of dodgy discs? On extremely rare occasions my "buffer-underrun" protected drive has a buffer underrun, and i put that down to a dodgy disc. Its only ever happened once or twice, both times with really cheap media.

But i would think the PIO/DMA solution will work best.

I think it would be worth investing in a cd writer with buffer underrun protection.

If your budget can stretch to EUR35 (inc postage), you could get this baby as soon as it comes back in stock. Not a bad buy if i may say so :p

You could also try upgrading the firmware for your CDRW, this page has a lot of info http://www.firmware.fr.st/

This resolved similar issues I had before with a Samsung CDRW.

Just be sure to follow the instructions carefully and download the correct firmware for the specific model you have.

    Hi

Did get the update for the Samsung from the Packard Bell website but no Joy

Will check the control panel and see

Mate has a cd burner so might try and connect that up and see if it works
