Im seriously thinking of getting a new laptop and im looking at either a Toshiba Satellite Pro m30 link or a Rockdirect Pegasus Ti link

I currently have a Toshiba satellite and like the screen and keyboard - so i know what to expect from the m30, never touched any rockdirect machines but I have heard good things.

So can anyone recommend either of these laptops or in fact any laptop (im open to suggestions). I'll be using it mainly for internet/development(vs.net) and maybe a little bit of gaming.

I'd lean towards the Rockdirect people. I've had the best of relations with them; they run a very professional, top-notch service. Never dealt with the Toshiba crowd.

Another thing is that you can customise some of the hardware with Rockdirect; and you'd appreciate the slot loading CD / DVD drive;)

After buying a toshiba, so would I...

Bought a satellite 5100-503 and within the first two years the hard drive went, the keyboard stopped working, the dvd/cd-rw busted and most recently (and most annoying) the graphics card has packed up so I cant play anymore games on it. Toshiba want the bones of €1500 to fix it because (and this is the part that makes me chuckle so) even after having it in their office for the best part of a week, they still dont know whats wrong with it.

I know a couple of people that have bought laptops from rockdirect, the whole package (hardware & service) seems very good.

The ability to customise the laptop is a very nice plus. The problem with the rockdirect laptops is that I cant check it out before I buy it - I need a good keyboard and screen, I know toshibas have these because I have a satellite myself . I dont know what the rockdirect laptop keyboards and screens are like and I've read in one review that the keyboard is a bit slow ??!!

I came accross some compaq amd 64 laptops aswell - they look alot slimer than the p4 laptops and are about 400e less than both the toshiba and rockdirct models - might be a cheaper and more future proof option ?

I've had an M30 for a few months and so far, no problems. I use it for development and have played a few games on it ok. The keyboard is nice and the screen is pretty good also. The battery life is excellent and the drivers are all provided on a second disk along with the recovery disk, so if you install another OS, you can build it back in no time.
