If as you say the Modem settings are fine it looks like a problem with the connection which could be your connection between PC and phone socket or on the line itself. Is there any noise on the line when making voice calls ?

Try downloading thw latest modem drivers, worked wonders for me with my creakingingly old desktop.

Whats the length of the cable between the phone point and the PC? Shorter the better.

Other than that I'd say its the phone line's at fault.

Why not try it in your house ,with your line and see if its a improvement.Should tell you whether its a comp or line fault.Thats what i would do,then you have something to work with.

One way to improve a modem connection is to ensure you are using a lead with only 2 contacts on the RJ11 connector. Most usually have 4, but the telephone system in Ireland only uses the middle 2. sometimes the outer 2 connectors give problems with data connections.

If you are using a cable with 4 contacts on the RJ11 connection, then open the outer cable to reveal the 4 inner ones then snip the outside 2 and tape them back ensuring they do not touch. I got this tip from a telecoms engineer.

I have found that this has cured a lot of issues with connection, disconnections, and speed problems.
