Canon XL1

OK anyone out there have one of these babies I'm shortly gonna be getting one but thought I'd get some feedback on it.

How has anyone found it in very low light situations (by that I mean near black)?

Have you found it easy to connect to you computer (I ask because I've never seen it mentioned anywhere that driver CD's come with the camera.

Also, anyone have some hidden site somewhere where there are reliable and cheaper to buy from?

You won't need drivers for firewire digital cameras.

As far as i know the Canon XL1 has been discontinued and replaced with the XL2 a price i saw for this was €5000 are you getting a second hand XL1?

You won't need any camera supplied software for connecting the camera to the PC as its firewire, so once you have a firewire card and premiere +lots of disk space if you are going be recording/editing large movies or other non linear editing package you should be fine.

XL1 was replaced by XL1s about 2 years ago. the xl2 is out now but its closer to the €6000 mark. this one place on georges st still has a few XL1s and the xl2 in stock. the xl2 is the only camera under approx. €10000 that does true widescreen as opposed to anamorphic.
