    Hello all,

Been having a problem with Hotmail recently. It's been coming up as just a blank page with the golden SSL Encryption lock in the bottom right corner (see pic) so after much researching, i could not resolve it so i updated to Service Pack 2.

    This did fix it somewhat!

But now i'm getting a 'Sign-in Access Error' (see pic) which is regarding my Javascript - says it's not enabled but i looked at my Internet settings in Security and all seems fine!

Any recommendations on what to do?

    Any help is much appreciated!

    What Firewall are you using?

Am using the XP Firewall that comes with SP2.

I'm a feeling it's this new feature with SP2 - an information bar in the browser that blocks pop-ups and stuff. It informed me that it blocked ActiveX controls on Hotmail so i set it to allow Hotmail to display this content and Hotmail's sign-in page seemed to work fine.

But i can't uninstall that Information Bar - i've looked up help online and it says to uncheck the pop-up blocker box in Internet Settings but i've done that and the Information Bar is still displaying warnings.

I can't even see the headings to browse different boards on Boards.ie.

it seems you need to get Java(Javascript) you can download it for free at www.java.com When you have downloaded and installd it,it should work properly for you.Give it a go!

    I'm stumped!

Just try Disabling the firewall and then see if it works.

Java and JavaScript are different, AFAIK. You should be able to use JavaScript without the need for a Java Machine.

Try Firefox and see if that works.

Hi, exact same problem here. I have tried all the afore-mentioned including disabling firewall and installing java to no avail.

    Posh.

By the way everyone, i got it fixed!

Read up on it online and the only thing i discovered that i didn't try yet was setting up a new user on my computer.

It seems to work now - my old user account on my computer was corrupt!

Java and JavaScript are totally seperate from each other. JavaScript is built into a browser, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, and so requires no additional software to be installed.

Each browser renders the JavaScript itself, so if it is having any problems its the browser and not the "java". Check for browser upgrades for improved JavaScript. Or get yourself a decent browser like Firefox :D

Jave on the otherhand is a programming platform/language developed by Sun, see java.com for more info.

Oh, and to let you know, before i fixed it by deleting my corrupt user account on my PC.

I downloaded numerous other browsers (including Opera and Mozilla) and none of them worked!

I guess the bottom line is... if none of the alternative browsers work, you probably have a corrupt user account.
