    hi, hows it going,

I have just started 6th year and i am thinking of animation as a course i would like to do after secondary.

I know of two colleges that offer this course in Ireland, and they are Balleyfermot and Dun Laoighre Inst. of Art and Design.

Does anybody know of any other colleges that offer an animation course in Ireland and what they are like.

If somebody is currently doing,or have done, the course in the colleges listed above, please post back with info on the course and colleges.

Any info would be much appreciated.

    Duff-MAN

As far as I know Ballyfermot is more geared towards factory style Disney animation where as Dun Laoghaire encourages your creative side more. Try creativeireland.ie you may get a few graduates on there among the hoards of arrogant spas. I know a few guys who went to Dun Laoghaire and at least two of them post there.

    FX Meister...

Firstly, people who refer to classical animation as "factory style Disney animation" usually can't comprehend how to do it! or are basically talentless ;))

"As far as you know" you are wrong. ballyfermot senior college is one of the best (if not the best) in europe. it has a close kindle with sheridan college in toronto, canada. which is so highly regarded in the 2d/3d animation field.

being a past student I know what I am talking about. it has the some of the best theory driven classes compared to others.

it also covers "visual language" which for the artistically inclined who do not like the "factory style Disney animation". This module helps "arty" animation wannabe. with a clear sense to understanding weight/importance and focal points within an image!

Friends that worked with me before hadn't any great comments about the other colleges in IRL.

I know have many friends who did the 2d course in Ballyfermot and i almost did myself. They are excellent at what they do however they do concentrate on one particular style/type of animation that does not suit everyone.

This guy----> duffzilla is in 2nd year animation at DL. You can ask him stuff where it says "devious comments" on that page on the right column. Think you have to be a deviant art member though, but its free and well worth setting up an account if you want to have an online gallery. and then you could go to my gallery ;) ..ahem ...cough.....fuzzy-logic ...ahem

I am also in 6th year and interested in the career of animation. If you need to know how good Dun Laoghaire is contacted the student shaneraycollins@hotmail.com. He was a teacher for me during the summer and is in his final year. Does anybody now what Colaiste Dhulaigh is like?-may put it down for a Dip choice
