Ok, I'm just nit-picking, but could we have some sort of rule banning excessive use of short hand typing? I mean, this IS a college forum, and there's a whole keyboard in front of people to be used...

Indeed, How would people feel about something like:-

6.3 Users shall endeavour to communicate correctly and in an unambiguous manner.

I think Chick'll be happy if we banned innuendo. ;)

I've no problem with them and i'm sure the'll be allowed but I could put in a clause if you wish.

er, no clause, imposter is right, this is the web. go talk to someone in person if ye don't want to use them.

and LOL @ banning innuendo, no. so far its been all good natured and fun, if it becomes harsh or abusive it'll be delt with.

I've no problem with acronyms and stuff, but seeing posts where every second word is "u" or "2" or some such makes my head hurt.

Yeah you're right Charter's more about common sense and it'll be interpreted like that. The mods aren't going to scrictly abide by every section and letter. But it does allow us to refer people to it if we need to.

Do what more or less every other board does:
1 - No Ads (unless approved by mod, as in college related)
    2 - No Porn
    3 - No abuse
4 - Threads must in some way be connected to TCD
5 - Problems with mods to be taken up by PM with mods or brought to admin forums.

I also think that bit about being college safe in rubbish. This is not the official tcd board so college regulations mean nothing here. In saying that anything that may get boards in trouble should not be allowed.

    Use common sense people.

I propose wee additional clause to 6.1.

6.1 Topics and post should be relevant to the Trinity College, Dublin Forum or relevant interests of the students therein.

ie this is a discussion forum for students of the college, every topic doesn't have to be specifically about the college eg the drinking games thread..

You'd be surprised. The High School Dublin forum has been closed (not sure if it's permanent) because... EDITED

To use the example you gave, someone saying that (Edited Just in case) would not be against college regulations but it may lead to boards being sued for the allegation by the (edited) . Can you see the difference?

On the other hand, what if someone got in trouble in college breaking the regulations, should they be allowed to discuss it here? This is not the college or college property. Their rules should not apply here.

I'm sure it wasn't closed because what was said was against the school's regulation but because it is an unsubstantiated slur...
Not sure if that is strictly college safe...more like slander/libel safe. But i do see where you are coming from.... :p

My reasoning behind the "College Safe" thing was that I assumed that most people would be lokking at the fourms in college and I didn't want them to be getting into trouble for looking at something they shouldn't be so I thought they should be given adequate warning. If people think that this really isn't an issue all remove it and hope posters use there common sense.

You'd think wouldn't you but as I was saying to ApeX I'm a Law student and have to over complicate things.

Basically the only thing you can get in real any trouble for (as it is a criminal offense {and very very rightly so}) in college is child porn. So after thinking about it I don't think that rule (the college regulations one!) really applies..

I get sent so much adult material by friends in college.. Also some lads I know are reputed (after a bit of an afternoon session in the pav) to have gone to the hutz, look at a load of explicit stuff, then gone to those extra private jacks in the IAMS and crack one off. Separately mind you..

Sorry for bein so candid but it's a modern world..

lol, ye cept i know a muppet who iis appareantly suspended his account over said explicit material....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,523 ✭✭✭ApeXaviour

    Really? Madness..
Anyway it's neither here nor there since you're not gonna be accessin anythin more explicit from boards than you would be on any other day..

A chap I know who repeated 1st year (NOT ME), had was doing a comp tutorial at the beginning of JF. He couldn't save some file so the lecturer (Maoro Ferrera, the brazilian physicist who can often be seen in the pav) went down to help him sort it out. Turns out his file-storage was chock full of porn from the previous year. Maoro said nothin, just told him to delete enough of it so he had enough space to do his tutorials..
That was when I really realised how different college was to school..

    College Charter:
    Use common sense.
The mods have the final say on everything.
Just because there's grass on the pitch, it doesn't mean you can play on it.
