Fitting 20pin ATX to 24pin ATX

On several of the new Intel 775 socket motherboards (mainly asus) the ATX powersupply plug is 24pin and not 20pin. The 20pin can connect, but will not power the board. Has anybody heard anything about this, and can you give me some advise?

    Cheers,
    Adam.

afaik, most current boards work fine with the older 20 pin connectors. Bit like when AMD boards came with the additional 12volt connection, but it didn't have to be used.

Although in future, boards with a higher power spec will probs require it. I just got a new psu that came with a 20 to 24 pin adaptor.

You should have gotten an adapter in the MB box....I'm surprised they didn't supply one. The 24 pins are part of the new ATX 2.0 standard, you can interchange the two standards with the use of a simple adapter. The trouble may be in finding one....try peats I suppose. Adapters are available though and can be used no prob.

Okay, if one can get the system to power up using just the 20pin plug, is it unusual to find problems with booting from devices? i.e: dvd drives having trouble detecting cd's and whatnot? The extra 4 pins I believe are 3.3+ 5+ and 12+, they must be for the PCIe slot, right?

im using 775 at the moment and at frist i was using the 20 pin from an antec 450 watt psu and i had no probs at all and im running a load of stuff on mine ...the i just left the last four pins empty and it was fine but i wasnt running my x800xt at the time so maybe that would have been different ????
my advice is get what im using now the neo power 480 it has the 24pins and a sole 6pin for the gpu
