Ripping an asx file

How would one go about getting an asx file onto ones hard-drive? Saving the file still requires it to go back online to play and buffer. Is it possible to actually get the full file or even record it as it plays online into some other format (pref. with freeware).

This is all in order to edit the clip and just take one bit of it out to a seperate file.

Oh, using XP by the way.

    Thanks in advance.

I think the last time I did this I used a small application called asf recorder.

Cool thanks. I've actually just opened it in notepad and found the proper file which does help :)

Edit: Interesting, the link works when pasted but not when trying to save the file - firefox says the link has moved or is wrong. But pasting in the address bar launches media player.

That would be because when you try to 'save' the file you are requesting that your browser downloads it (which the stream server won't allow), whereas when you paste the link into the browser it just sends the request to the stream server to play it and opens your media player.

    You could try with ScreenMovie
