Couldn't stab into the heart...

Had a bizarre dream again last night. It wasn't funny.
I awoke at 4:48am very freaked out.

In my dream I was in a room with some other people - I seem to remember a battle/war going on - I was possiably shooting previous in the dream. Than a topless man - quite gaunt/thin approached me. I could see his ribs. I had a carving knife in my hand.
I must have stabbed him twice into the lungs (between the ribs) on his right side (as he faced me), and that I tried aiming for his heart. I wasn't able to get to his heart because his breast plate (the bone that connects all the ribs and protects the heart) was in the way.

I awoke very freaked. (I'm not violent by nature)

Any ideas on a meaning, good people? I'm sure stabbing is a common enough theme.

I used to occasionally have very violent dreams when I was feeling very pent up and frustrated. Maybe you need to let out some aggression somewhere.

Not being able to get at your target (his heart) would also seem to indicate you are feeling frustrated.

Maybe it's fear of impotence. It's almost a cliché to suggest that the knife is phallic. Even if that was the case, I wouldn't read too much into the fact it was a man and not a woman. It would be rather disturbing if you said you'd dreamt about stabbing a woman like that. (oddly not disturbing when it's a man)

Cheers for that. I did a little research on the interweb: according to one source, the stabbing is the resolution or desire of resolution, of a long running inner conflict. The aiming for the heart implies an emotional conflict.
