what dvd's would you recommend in terms of quality + extra. I have my eye on a few but any suggestions would help.

Not Pulp Fiction anyhow. That dvd sucked ass, it was just the movie, with scene access and ONE piece of glossy paper. As a gift though, it's such a good movie it might make up for it. Depends on the recipient.

    STARSHIP TROOPERS or EVENT HORIZAN

Off the top of my head. Assuming you want a good movie with loads of features. I'm basing these on the US releases. Ireland releases may be kack, so don't blame me.

    Starship troopers.
    Austin Powers (either movie)
    Something about Mary.
    GhostBusters (Number 1 only)
    Blade
The Big Lebowski (no extras though)

Oh yea, and Cruel Intentions!! Very good movie and loads of extras.

erm... I have around 150 DVD's now so I know there are more just can't think of them off hand.

Worst movie I have gotten so far....

    a night at the roxbury.

As far as I know, the European version of Starship Troopers is a flipper, so if you're getting it, get the American version.

    Right,

In my opinion here are a few good disks..

Blade - My first disk and still a favourite
The Matrix - U just can't escape it.
Brazil Criterion Edition - Mmmmmmmmmm 3 DVD's with 2 Versions of the films and loads of extras like documentaries etc. (this is the best DVD in my collection)
The Mummy (1999) - Good Film, loads of extras.
Last of the Mohicans - No Extras but the film looks and sounds excellent.
Austin Powers The Spy who shagged me. - Loads of Extras, the films not bad either.

These are all Region 1 DVD's. One note I see people recommending Starship Troopers, make sure you don't buy the version over here its a "flipper" and has no extras.

I normally use the following online retailers for most of my dvd's now.

www.reel.com Loads of coupons available for these guys as well.

www.dvdexpress.com They seem to have fastest delivery from the States so far.

    Thats all from me.

I rented out "John Carpenters: The Thing" and we all know it's a great film and it has lots of extras:
    Commentry
    Documentary
    Footage that was cut out
    Original Trailer
    Story Boards

Those are just a few of the things on the DVD. (It says it's a collectors edition on the Box) .

    Well,

Ronin wasn't bad on DVD and the Excorcist has a good few features as well.

But I've ordered Alien Legacy (1,2,3 and Ressurection) - so i reckon that could be fairly classy. Oh also American Pie uncut is on its way - meant to be fairly good as well wrt extra features.

    J.
Do not buy The Crow city of Angels - in any format ... pretty disappointing.

can i get that out on video, or do i have to get it on dvd?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,203 ✭✭✭Excelsior

It's in the IFC right now! Go, go see it, it rocks like a very big American band who wore leather and had perms in the 80s. No wait, it doesnt bear any resembalance to that because it is the most modern movie I've seen in a long time. It lets you know the year 2,000 is upon us.

    so paul,
    youre passing on false info.....?
youre telling us to get it on dvd format when it isnt even released yet?

its the police for you my son

Naw Eamo I just prefer to get the versions with proper extras and not the ****e that the studios expect us to buy here in Region2 land. FFS hack that DVD Rom of yours and get US DVD's they are in the whole much better value. Actually I have a few Region4 Aussie DVD's on the way to me at the moment, damn the internet it makes using me credit card too easy tongue.gif
