Medion now warn users NOT to install XP SP2 update. I know it is a bit late, as it has screwed my machine up nicely- see previous thread begging for loan of original disk.
More details if you PM me as don't wish to clog board up.

Actually a number of machines seem to be having serious problems with XP2 installed.

Mine for example took 15 minutes to boot everytime I Started it up. You can uninstall SP2 though if you can still boot to windows.

Thanks for that, Hobbes.Whilst aware that pasting is normally disapproved of, I hope that you'll tolerate an excerpt from my email from their technical support. Feel free to sub it down.
I'd panicked before getting this and had used D&A disk, without unplugging all usb devices, and then indesperation installed XPPro, which is in a new partition, and using freeware, am a bit out of depth., and seems I have lost all music, and other stuff . Yep, I know I should have backed eveything up more often. Bit late now though.

    Dear Mr Wheels,

    Thank you for your message.

We have had a number of problems reported by people who have installed SP2 and our current advice is not to install it. MS are aware of problems and are working to fix them.

Well I appreciate that doesn't help you as you've already done it. The first thing to try is to go into Safe Mode and revert to a save point that pre-dates the installation of SP2. That is not guaranteed to be effective and you may find you want to revert to factory settings.

    Return to factory settings re-establishes the image of the C: partition as it was when the PC first shipped. This uses the "Applications & Support" disk that will have been shipped with the PC; if you decide to do this, please follow the procedure below;

POWERQUEST RESTORE USING APPLICATIONS AND SUPPORT CD FOR WINDOWS XP

    !!WARNING!!
*** This procedure will return the C: partition to the condition in which the unit was shipped. You must ensure all data is backed-up before this procedure is followed, or it will be lost.

    !!WARNING!!
*** You must disconnect all USB devices (other than keyboard and mouse) before following this procedure.

    1. Insert the Applications and Support CD into your DVD drive and restart your machine.
    2. On the restart a screen will appear "BOOT FROM HARD DISK" or "BOOT FROM CD"
    3. Press the 2 key to boot from CD.
    4. Press E for English.
    5. Then read the Licence agreement and press 'esc'
    6. Then Move the cursor to 'YES', this shows you have accepted the licence agreement and are ready to continue.
    7. You will see a warning screen informing you to refer to the manual when using this process is displayed. You are now presented with three options:-
    Recover start up files
Recovery of system and driver files
    Restoring the factory settings
    8. Select "Restoring the factory settings"
    9. You will get a warning about data loss - select finish
    10. Select "Finish" a second time.
    11. You will now see the restore screen.

The recovery will take approximately 5 minutes.

If you cannot find your "Applications & Support" disk, we can supply a copy for the fixed price of £11.95, which includes VAT and P+P. The correct disk for your system is: 20015172 (NOT CURRENTLY IN STOCK).

If you have a credit or switch card, the quickest way to order is to ring our hotline on 0870 727 0370. Alternatively, you may send a cheque for the correct amount to the address below. In either case, please quote your Customer Id (52237271) and the part number (20015172) to ensure the most efficient service.

Please be aware that, although we are pleased to do this for our customers, we are not set up to retail single items and it will take at least 28 days to fulfil your order once placed in this way.

I hope this information is helpful to you but please feel free to contact us again if problems persist or if you have further concerns or questions.

    Regards,

    Andy

Subject: NEW Problem and Missing Disc

Hi, and sorry to hear of your problems.
I got the previous problem resolved, a new power pack fixed it. HOWEVER,I now have a new problem. An attempt to update to SP2 buggered every thing up, it seems. I am a disabled man hugely reliant on my pc. I can't find original Windows disc, and hope you can send me one.
