    hi

have ben seeing a counsellor for a while for depression and personality disorders and its not really working out, dont feel she's helping etc. but i definitely want to pursue psychotherapy, partic. cognitive behaviour therapy. any recommendations of good counsellors? ive tried the golden pages but there are so many i wouldn't know where to start. pref a female counsellor and maybe city centre/near city centre too (though i don't mind trekking outside!)

    thanks

Your GP is likely to have a list.

Of course, is this a question that you feel uncomfortable raising with your current counsellor? Why does it make you feel uncomfortable? ;)

yes i got the name of the current counsellor im seeing off my GP....don't want to go back and pay €40 just for a few names and tbh as i amnt impressed with this one, i don't put much faith in my gp's recommendations.

obviously im not going to tell me current counsellor that i think she's rubbish....

she'd understand, thats what they do. she'd more than likely prefer you to be seeing someone that you can work with better.

my last therapist wasnt rubbish at all, but it just wasnt working, him being a man had a lot to do with it. he was the one who said it to me, that maybe id be happier with someone else, and i agreed. he was the one who set me up with my next therapist.

even if you think she's rubbish, she probably will have an idea of someone that would suit you better. its a shopping around situation, when i went to therapy first i just assumed they were all the same, one was as good as another, but you really have to shop around (in my experience the first session is free) and find a personality that suits you, be honest with yourself, dont go with someone that'll let you get away with anything, (thats what i did, as long as i talked about my mother, he was happy, and i didnt have to deal with anything else, more important)

anyway goodluck, and dont give up till you find someone that works for you

Can IO just ask how much your current sessions are costing? does the state provide any assistance to counciling sessions?

Generally no. You would probably need to be at the point of problematic / dysfunctional before you would see health board psychologist (talk doctor, psychiatrist is medication doctor).
